Ridgegear RGP-5-1 Bosuns Work Positioning Seat

RGP-5-1 is the Ridgegear bosuns work positioning seat, a lightweight padded seat for rope access that attaches to the ventral point of a rope access harness or the integrated attachment points of the RGH17. It weighs 1.34 kg, measures 53 x 14 cm and supports a user of up to 140 kg. Ridgegear marks it as not to be used as PPE.

A padded seat that shares the load with the harness

Ridgegear says the seat supports the user weight more evenly than the harness alone, reduces pressure and fatigue, and lets the user concentrate on prolonged tasks. It has polyester tool loops rated at 20 kg and a rear webbing loop for storage when not in use. The 20 mm webbing keeps the area less cluttered, tool attachment loops are webbing to cut weight and avoid metal-to-metal connection, and the textile cover can be replaced.

The materials are steel, aluminium and polyester. The data sheet notes that karabiners are not included.

Selection and ordering guide

Choose the RGP-5-1 for rope access teams who spend long periods suspended on maintenance, inspection or cleaning tasks. It does not replace the harness, which remains the PPE. It pairs with the RGH17 on this site, whose yellow Bosun chair attachment points are meant for it.

The instructions refer to EN 813 for the harness and state the seat must be used only as described.

Ordering note: the seat is listed as RGP-5-1 with a single size of 53 by 14 cm and does not include connectors, so specify suitable karabiners for the harness attachment points separately. If the team uses the RGH17, the integrated yellow Bosun chair attachment points are the intended connection; for other rope access harnesses use the ventral attachment point.

Installation and operation notes

Attach to the harness ventral point or integrated points with suitable connectors, adjusting the straps for the user. Inspect the webbing and seat pad for cuts, abrasion, burns or chemical attack, check buckles and stitching, and make sure the product marking and serial number are legible.

Keep a record card, reject at any doubt, and do not modify or repair without written consent.

Inspection per the instructions: check the webbing and seat pad for cuts, tears, abrasion, scorch marks, burns, chemical attack or severely discoloured patches; check buckles for damage and sharp edges; check stitching; and confirm the product marking and serial number are legible. Periodic examination is required before every use by the user and by a competent person at regular intervals, with results recorded on the record card.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Rope access maintenance, window cleaning, construction, rescue and inspections, which are the scenarios Ridgegear lists. In GCC facade and stack work the seat reduces fatigue during long shifts in heat.

Keep tools within the 20 kg loop rating.

The product label carries the serial number, a 140 kg maximum weight and a one-size marking. Avoid temperatures outside -25 C to +50 C and contact with strong chemicals. Never modify or repair the seat without Ridgegear’s written consent, and retire it after 10 years from manufacture.
