FloBoss 107 Flow Manager

Description

Overview

The FloBoss 107 is Emerson’s microprocessor-based flow manager for remote energy sites, designed to monitor, measure and control equipment in the field from a single compact unit. According to the official product data sheet, the FloBoss 107 is built for expandability and covers three families of duty: applications that require flow computation, control applications such as PID loops and logic sequencing, and custom applications written for measurement, communications or control. It measures up to four meter runs through a variety of differential and linear meters, which makes a single unit a practical replacement for several single-purpose instruments on a wellsite, a gas gathering station or a small metering skid.

As a supplier of Emerson products in Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the FloBoss 107 Flow Manager with the FloBoss 107 datasheet and technical support with selection. Operators in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah can order the base unit, the optional expansion rack and the plug-in modules from one source, which keeps the configuration consistent from the first quotation to the final site acceptance test.

Measurement and Control Principle

The FloBoss 107 gathers process variables from the field, calculates flow and stores the results locally. Meter inputs can use analog or digital transmitters, pulse inputs or Modbus variables, and the CPU module includes a resistance temperature detector input for the flowing temperature. An optional Multi-Variable Sensor module provides the interface to remote MVS transmitters for multiple-run applications, and a Dual-Variable Sensor or a Pressure Module can be fitted when the FloBoss 107 is mounted in a FloBoss 107E enclosure. The result supports differential-pressure elements as well as linear meters such as turbines.

Calculated data stays in the unit. The FloBoss 107 uses boot flash for system initialization and diagnostics, flash ROM for the firmware image, and battery-backed static RAM for data logs and configuration, with standard and extended history archiving available. Because the same controller can run PID loops, Function Sequence Tables and IEC 61131 programs, it can also act on what it measures, for example by driving a valve or a motor from the same device that totalizes the flow. ROCLINK 800 configuration software is used to configure the unit, extract data and monitor operation, and licenses written through ROCLINK 800 unlock extended functionality such as additional user programs.

Engineering Design of the FloBoss 107

The base FloBoss 107 measures 204 mm high by 153 mm wide by 140 mm deep and weighs 0.76 kg with the CPU module, while the optional expansion rack extends the width to 306 mm. Slot 0 holds the CPU module, slots 1 and 2 can take communication modules, and slots 1 to 3 on the main unit plus slots 4 to 7 on the expansion rack accept input and output, MVS and application modules. Four CPU options are offered: non-isolated or isolated, each with or without a six-point I/O assembly. The isolated version provides 1500 Vdc isolation between the CPU and the field logic.

Extensive short-circuit protection on the I/O, application, MVS and communication modules reduces the need for fuses and therefore maintenance calls. The CPU can supply loop power at 10 Vdc for low-power transmitters or 24 Vdc, with up to 80 mA, to power field devices that return a 4 to 20 mA signal. A steel enclosure and a polycarbonate enclosure are available for the FloBoss 107, and the Measurement Canada version pairs a four-slot unit with Measurement Canada firmware and an LCD touchpad display in the polycarbonate enclosure.

Key Features

The FloBoss 107 combines flow computation, control and communications in one expandable flow manager. The features below are taken from the official product data sheet.

  • Measures up to four meter runs using differential and linear meters with analog, digital, pulse or Modbus inputs.
  • Offers expandable I/O with six points on the optional CPU I/O assembly and up to six I/O modules when the expansion rack is fitted.
  • Provides three CPU communication ports, including a local operator interface, an RS-485 port and an RS-232 port, with up to four ports in total.
  • Supports ROC protocol and Modbus protocol, and can act as a Modbus slave in ASCII or RTU mode or as a Modbus host.
  • Includes a configurable operating speed so the unit can be tuned for low power consumption on solar or battery-powered sites.
  • Stores monitored, measured and calculated data locally with standard and extended history archiving and battery-backed memory.
  • Provides multi-level role-based access and user account authentication, with password encryption from firmware version 2.00.
  • Supports WirelessHART field devices through the IEC 62591 interface module, which handles up to 20 devices.

Industrial Applications

The FloBoss 107 suits remote sites where flow measurement, simple control and communications have to coexist in one low-power device. Typical duties include natural gas run measurement with orifice or turbine meters, pipeline and gathering-line monitoring, wellhead and separator control, and pressure or temperature supervision at distribution and metering stations. Its AGA3 orifice and AGA7 turbine calculations, together with the AGA8 compressibility methods listed in the data sheet, make it a familiar choice for gas measurement in the Sultanate of Oman, including facilities near Sohar and Salalah and upstream installations in the interior.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the FloBoss 107 to oil and gas operators, EPC contractors, system integrators and utility maintenance teams across Oman and the wider GCC. Customers who already operate larger metering stations can pair it with the FloBoss S600+ flow computer for custody transfer, review the OMNI 6000 flow computer for liquid and gas batching duties, or read our guide on what a flow computer does before selecting hardware.

About brand
Flow computers and remote controllers lead the Emerson listing here: the ROC800 series and the FloBoss 107 used for gas and liquid measurement at wellheads, metering skids and pipeline stations. Emerson, founded in 1890 and headquartered in St. Louis, USA, also stands behind Micro Motion Coriolis meters, Fisher FIELDVUE valve controllers and the DeltaV control system. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier, sources these Emerson products and their spare parts for users in Oman and the GCC.

Emerson product families on this page

The measurement and control group includes the ROC809 and the expandable ROC827 Remote Operations Controllers, the ROC800L for liquid measurement and the FloBoss 107 Flow Manager. Flow metering is represented by Micro Motion ELITE CMF Coriolis sensors and the 5700 transmitter. For valves there is the DVC6200 digital valve controller, plus solenoid valves and a safety relief valve. DeltaV hardware includes the PK Controller and DeltaV SIS components. Field tools are the AMS Trex Device Communicator and the earlier 475 Field Communicator, and wireless networks use the 1410S gateway with the 781S smart antenna. The cooling items are Copeland scroll and semi-hermetic compressors, which were sold for many years under the Emerson name.

Where Emerson equipment is used

ROC and FloBoss units calculate and log gas and liquid flow at production sites and custody transfer points. Micro Motion meters measure mass flow and density in loading, blending and fiscal metering. DVC6200 controllers position control valves and report valve diagnostics, and DeltaV runs process units in refineries, chemical plants and utilities. Copeland compressors serve air conditioning and refrigeration plants.

Ordering Emerson parts: what we need

Send the full model string and serial number from the nameplate. For ROC800 units list the I/O and communication modules fitted and the application, gas or liquid. For Coriolis meters give both the sensor and the transmitter model. For DeltaV parts quote the 12P or KJ part number, and for compressors the complete model number with voltage code.
