Lovato DMG600 Flush-Mount Three-Phase LCD Multimeter

Description

DMG600 multifunction power analyser: decoded part number

The DMG600 is a flush-mount digital multimeter from Lovato Electric with a backlit icon LCD display for monitoring electrical systems. It gives true RMS values of voltage, current, power, energy and harmonics, and can be expanded with plug-in EXP modules for communication or I/O.

Decoded: DMG is the Lovato multimeter family, and 600 is the expandable flush-mount model with a 72 x 46 mm display. The non-expandable DMG110 and the DMG200 are family members with different housings and options.

Values are taken from the Lovato Electric catalogue entry for DMG600. The catalogue entry lists no built-in serial port on this model; communication is through expansion modules.

How the DMG600 works

The multimeter samples voltages and currents and calculates true RMS values, power, energy and harmonic content in real time. Current inputs are connected through external current transformers with 1 A or 5 A secondary, and the voltage inputs are connected directly up to 600 V line-to-line or through voltage transformers for medium-voltage systems.

The unit displays measured values on the front through icon-based screens and can store energy counters. Because the front has an optical port, a technician can configure it from a PC or app without touching the wiring.

With the EXP expansion modules, the meter can add communication ports, relay outputs or other functions; check the module list in the catalogue for the supported combinations.

Fit in the system and related Lovato Electric parts

The DMG600 fits at the incomer or a feeder of a low-voltage board, where it complements a power factor controller such as the DCRL3 and the current transformers of the same manufacturer.

  • DMG110 and DMG200 for simpler or modular metering
  • DMG610 and DMG8000 for higher functionality
  • Current transformers of the DM0T range
  • EXP series expansion modules for communication and I/O

Selection and ordering checklist for the DMG600

Before ordering the DMG600, settle the following points so that the right variant is quoted:

  • System type: single-, two- or three-phase with or without neutral
  • Voltage level and whether voltage transformers are needed
  • CT ratio and secondary 1 A or 5 A
  • Supply voltage: 100 to 440 V AC or 120 to 250 V DC
  • Need for communication, I/O or energy pulses

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the DMG600

Cut out the panel door, insert the meter from the front and fix it with the supplied clips; connect the supply, voltage inputs and CT secondaries with the correct polarity and phase. Never open a CT secondary circuit while the primary is carrying current.

After power-up set the CT ratio, VT ratio and system type through the keypad or the optical port, and compare readings with a reference instrument.

  • Check CT shorting terminals and wiring after commissioning
  • Clean the front glass
  • Verify energy counters during audits
  • Save the configuration file

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Multimeters are used at motor control centres, generator incomers, compressor stations and utility switchboards to give operators and energy managers a view of load and power quality. The 15th-order harmonic analysis is useful near variable-speed drives, which are common in Gulf pumping and desalination plants.

Because the meter is rated up to +60 °C, it is suitable for panels in unconditioned electrical rooms, but its front should be protected from direct sun on outdoor kiosks.

When you request a quotation for the DMG600, note that the unit measures through external current transformers. If the existing CTs are of 1 A or 5 A secondary class and have enough burden for the added meter, they can be reused; if not, new CTs are needed. Also tell us whether the readings must go to a SCADA system, because the catalogue entry shows no built-in communication port and an expansion module would then be part of the order. For energy audits, remember that active energy accuracy is class 1 and reactive class 2 under the standards listed, which is adequate for internal cost allocation but not for tariff metering.

Site conditions in Oman for the DMG600

Electrical rooms and outdoor panels in the Gulf often operate well above the 25 °C reference temperature used in many catalogues. Before you finalise the DMG600, compare the expected panel temperature with the operating range and any output derating stated in the manufacturer documentation, and leave the recommended clearance above and below the device for convection. Supply quality also varies between sites, so confirm the input voltage range, frequency and any requirements for protection on the supply side.

Where the device feeds or monitors critical loads, plan how faults will be signalled to the control system and how a replacement can be installed quickly. Keeping one spare DMG600 per site and recording its settings helps maintenance teams in Oman restore service with minimum downtime.

Lovato order codes describe the product. On a contactor such as BF0910A230, "BF09" is the frame and rated current (9 A in AC-3), "10" is the built-in auxiliary contact (one normally open), "A" means an AC coil and "230" is the coil voltage. The coil voltage must match the control circuit exactly, so it is the most common detail to check when replacing one. For motors, a soft starter limits the inrush current at start and stop, while a variable speed drive controls the speed continuously and saves energy on pumps and fans that do not need full flow all the time.

Where Lovato products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Lovato components are built into motor control centres, pump and HVAC panels, capacitor banks for power factor correction, generator and ATS panels, and machine control panels for industry, water and buildings.
