Brand:

Iskra iMC784A Class A Power Quality Analyzer, 144 mm

Description

iMC784A is the top model of the Iskra power quality analyzers: a 144 mm panel instrument with certified class A accuracy, disturbance, trend and waveform recorders, and 8 GB of internal flash memory. It evaluates the supply against EN 50160, evaluates over 700 electrical quantities and exports data in PQDIF and COMTRADE formats.

Class A analysis with oscillography and event triggers

Where the iMC770 stores weekly reports, the iMC784A adds trigger-based recorders. Transient triggers use hold-off time, absolute peak (percent of Un) and fast change (percent of Un per microsecond); PQ event triggers cover voltage dip, swell, interruption, rapid voltage change and inrush current; digital inputs and Ethernet triggers from up to eight other devices can also start a record. Up to 16 combined triggers allow logical operations.

Waveform records offer 19 to 625 samples per cycle, 4 voltage plus 4 current channels and 16 logical inputs, with pre-trigger time from 0.01 s to 1 s. Disturbance records use half- or full-cycle averaging. Four standard trend recorders and four fast trend recorders store minimum, maximum, average and actual values, and data can be pulled over FTP.

Features stated in the data sheet

Ordering code structure

After iMC784A the code selects I/O module A, I/O module B, the aux supply (H is standard), display (T colour TFT or G 128 x 64 pixel), I/O module 1/2, I/O module 3/4, COM1 (E Ethernet and USB, or S Ethernet and USB with IEC 61850 Ed.2) and nominal frequency (S 50/60 Hz or A 400 Hz). Modules A and B each provide eight channels (relay outputs on A only, digital inputs on A or B), and the auxiliary slots hold analogue, pulse, tariff and bistable modules.

A special time synchronisation module C holds the RS485, modem/RS232, 1 pps and BNC IRIG-B terminals. The data sheet notes that RS232/RS485 communication on COM2 cannot be used while GPS time synchronisation is active.

Installation and commissioning

Terminal 12 (PE) must always be connected, whatever the system connection, because the fourth voltage channel measures between earth and neutral. The recommended fuse for voltage inputs is 6 A; the auxiliary supply inrush can reach 20 A for less than 1 ms, so size the MCB accordingly.

Settings can be made from the front keys or by MiQen Setting Studio over serial, Ethernet or USB. The software exports stored data in standard file formats, to the MiSMART database and in PQDIF format.

Applications

General engineering note: this class of analyzer is used where proof is needed of supply quality, such as at utility handover points, renewable plants and large industrial loads. Triggered waveform records help locate faults caused by motor starting, capacitor switching or inrush currents.

Time-aligned records from several units, using GPS or IRIG-B, allow an event to be followed from its source to the places it affects.

Related Iskra items

The iMC770 offers class A analysis with a smaller 96 mm housing and no oscillography; the iMC740 and iMC750 are class S meters. Related items are listed in the power meters category.

Power quality monitoring in Oman and the GCC

A class A analyzer with waveform and transient recording suits substations, the supply point of large industrial plants, and feeders to critical loads where the cause of a trip or disturbance must be found. In the region, typical questions are harmonics from drives and UPS systems, voltage dips during network faults, and inrush currents from large motors and transformers. Configure the time source at commissioning so events can be compared with protection relay records.
