A 76 A, 0.4 mH copper strip reactor for 37 kW drives

The Circutor LRBZ 04-080 (code P7330E) is a network-side filter reactor of the LRBZ type, used for higher currents than the LRZ range. The datasheet gives an inductance of 0.4 mH, a nominal current of 76 A, losses of 110 W and a motor power of 37 kW (50 CV). Instead of the wire coils of the low-power LRZ, it has a magnetic plate core with multiple steel cores and copper strip coils (aluminium strip on demand), with the connections run through a plate.

Fitted on the input of a frequency converter, UPS or similar equipment, the reactor attenuates voltage peaks and reduces harmonic distortion, and can cut current harmonics from 40 to 50 percent to around 20 percent according to Circutor. It also reduces short-circuit current and increases the safety of the converter semiconductors.

The LRBZ line starts at this 76 A model for 37 kW motors and continues through 115, 185, 200 and 300 in the type numbers; the LRZ 04-033 and 04-050 take the lower powers. The step from the LRZ 04-033 (0.98 mH, 32 A, 4.3 kg) to this reactor lowers inductance to 0.4 mH while raising current capacity, so the choice follows the drive current. Compare the drive rating with the 76 A nominal value and the overload limits before selecting a larger or smaller reactor.

Installation notes

The reactor is open (IP 00), measures 180 x 160 x 135 mm and weighs 12.5 kg, so it must be mounted inside a protective enclosure with attention to the 110 W loss. The strip coils connect through a plate: use cable lugs or bars sized for 76 A and tighten per the manufacturer guidance. As the thermal class is F, keep the surrounding temperature low enough that the winding stays below +155 C, and allow airflow around the yellow insulated coils.

Where the LRBZ 04-080 is used

Typical for drives of about 37 kW in pump stations, fan and blower systems, and process lines, and for generator-fed sites where reactors at the converter input limit the harmonic stress. Where harmonic levels remain high after adding reactors, an active filter or a dedicated filter study may still be required.

Selection and installation notes

A line reactor is chosen from the drive power and the rated current of the converter, so check both against the sheet and allow for the ambient temperature inside the cabinet. Mount it where air can circulate around the windings, keep the connecting cables short and tightened to the torque in the instructions, and remember that the losses listed on the sheet become heat in the panel. Where harmonic limits apply to the site, confirm the final choice with a measurement or with the drive manufacturer recommendation.
