Tektronix PA1000 Single-Phase AC Power Analyzer 1 MHz 600 V 20 A
Description
PA1000 is a single-phase, single-channel bench power analyzer from Tektronix with a 1 MHz measurement bandwidth, a basic accuracy of ±0.04 percent, direct inputs of 1 to 600 V RMS (Cat II) and 20 µA to 20 A RMS, and harmonic analysis to the 50th order as standard.
Measure how much power a product really draws
The datasheet positions the PA1000 for proving that products meet energy-efficiency rules. Its DMM-like interface and colour graphical display show watts, VA, VAR, power factor, crest factor, THD and energy integration, plus waveforms and harmonic bar charts, with 1 MS/s continuous sampling for transient analysis.
Two dedicated tests are built in. Current harmonics can be pre-compliance tested to IEC/EN 61000-3-2 and 4-7, and standby power can be tested to IEC 62301 and EN 50564, with the datasheet stating full-compliance testing at levels as low as 5 mW. The free PWRVIEW software produces formatted pass/fail reports for these tests.
Key features as printed in the datasheet
- Voltage ranges 10 V peak to 1000 V peak; current ranges 0.1 A to 100 A peak on the 20 A shunt, 0.002 A to 2 A peak on the 1 A shunt.

Ordering and accessories
The order code is PA1000. The kit includes a voltage lead set, a country-specific power cord, a USB cable, a documentation CD in ten languages and a calibration certificate with a three-year warranty. Choose the power plug option from A0 (North America 115 V), A1 (Universal Euro), A2 (UK), A3 (Australia), A4 (North America 240 V), A5 (Switzerland), A6 (Japan), A10 (China), A11 (India), A12 (Brazil) or A99 (no cord), and add a BB1000 breakout box in the matching North America, EU or UK plug style if you test mains-cord products.
How to connect and read results
Plug the product under test into the BB1000 breakout box and connect the box to the analyzer with the supplied 4 mm safety leads, or wire the inputs directly. Allow 30 minutes of warm-up and perform the manual zero before low-level work; the datasheet states specifications are valid from 1 to 100 percent of range in low bandwidth and above 10 percent of range in high bandwidth. External shunts must be 10 Ω or less. When no frequency is detected the signal is treated as DC for accuracy purposes.
Efficiency and standby tests for Gulf manufacturers and labs
Applications cited by Tektronix include power supplies and UPS, LED drivers, wireless charging, consumer electronics, appliances, IT equipment, inverters and battery chargers. Local assemblers of lighting, air-conditioning controls and chargers can use it to check consumption before sending products to an external test house. Tektronix states support for additional testing to CE, EnergyStar, CEC, SPEC Power, CQC-3146 and NOM-32-ENER-2013; confirm the scheme you need with your certifying body.
Selection and installation notes
Test and measurement instruments are selected from the accuracy, the range and the interfaces the work needs. Allow the warm-up time, use leads and probes rated for the voltage and category of the circuit, keep the inputs inside the stated limits and keep the calibration current according to your quality system. Record the settings used for any test that must be repeated later.
