JUMO 608301 Bimetal Temperature Switch with Fixed Setpoint

Description

Electromechanical temperature switch with a fixed switching temperature

The JUMO 608301 is an electromechanical bimetal temperature switch with a fixed switching temperature. In industry, such switches limit temperature: for example they switch a machine off in case of overheating or switch on a fan to cool the device. The series is free of cadmium and RoHS-compliant, and installation is simple.

Temperature is measured by a bimetal disc that snaps when the rated switching temperature is reached. After cooling to the switchback temperature the switch returns to its original state. The switchback temperature is typically 15 to 30 K below the switching temperature on the snap-action version.

The switch is supplied with an N/C contact that opens an electrical circuit, or an N/O contact that closes one when the switching temperature is reached. Three designs are offered: the snap-action switch (608301/10), the slow-action contact (608301/20) and the miniature snap-action switch (608301/30).

Fittings are made of brass CW614N or stainless steel 1.4305 and are sealed with a sealing ring in a screw-in spigot similar to DIN 3852 form A. Insertion lengths of 28, 35 and 40 mm are listed, with cable lengths of 1000 to 5000 mm where a cable version is ordered.

Order code and options

The order code runs: basic type 608301, extension (10, 20, 30), switching temperature, switching output (98 for N/C, 99 for N/O), nominal voltage code, electrical connection, process connection material, diameter, thread, insertion length, cable length and extra code. An example is 608301/10-140-98-50-01-50-10-121-35-0/000.

Extra codes add a snap-action contact with gold plating (702), an integrated Pt100 (840) or an integrated Pt1000 (841). The data sheet states a minimum order quantity of 50 pieces and that other versions of switching temperature and fitting are available on request, so ask us about availability for your quantity.

Nominal voltage codes include AC 6 to 48 V, AC 6 to 230 V, DC 12 to 30 V for the slow-action contact and gold-plated versions for DC 6 to 30 V or AC 6 to 120 V, which suit low-current signal circuits.

Switching cycles in the data sheet are 100,000 or more at AC 250 V, 10 A and at AC 48 V, 15 A for the snap-action switch, and at least 10,000 at DC 5 A loads from 6 to 30 V. Operate within these ratings for the stated life, and use the gold-plated contact for low-level signals between 10 and 100 mA.

The maximum current carrying capacity depends on the ambient temperature at the wire: for the attached cable version it is 10 A up to 50 °C, 7.3 A up to 75 °C and 4.2 A up to 85 °C. Choose a connection type whose cable can handle the temperature at your installation.

Applications

Typical uses are overtemperature cut-outs on machines, motors, hydraulic oil circuits and heat exchangers, and fan switching for cooling. A fixed-point switch is cheap and compact, and the screw-in fitting places the bimetal disc directly in the measured medium or a drilled boss.

Select the contact type for the load. The standard snap-action switch handles higher currents, the slow-action contact has a narrow differential for control tasks and the miniature version suits small signal loads. Check the specified current against the connection type, because the permitted current falls as the cable temperature rises.

Dimension drawings in the data sheet show the G 1/2 version with a 28 mm or 35 mm insertion length and the M14 x 1.5 version, with a wrench size of 28 mm or 35 mm. Plan the mounting boss accordingly and use a new sealing ring after each removal.

For the M12 plug versions the contact is connected through terminals 1 and 2 of the mating connector, and the IP67 rating applies only with the mating connector fitted and tightened.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.
