Duct-mounted humidity and temperature transmitter for ventilation systems

The JUMO hydroTRANS S30 (type 907043) is the duct version of the hydroTRANS family. It is meant for mounting in weather-proofed ventilation ducts to monitor the outside air that enters a building or a production process. It reports relative humidity and temperature, with an optional CO2 module for demand-controlled ventilation.

Outputs are a configurable 4 to 20 mA / 0 to 10 V combination or RS485 Modbus RTU. A USB micro-B port is used for configuration through the setup program. The data sheet lists railway applications according to DIN EN 50155 among the areas of use, and extra code 950 applies for railway use (not with CO2).

The same multisensor design as the other hydroTRANS devices gives a typical accuracy of 2.0 % RH and 0.2 °C, with a maximum of 2.5 % RH and 0.4 °C after the 60-hour stabilization period, and a one-second sampling rate for humidity and temperature.

Order code and filters

The order code is 907043/ extension (11 or 12) – version 0 – measuring range (15 or 17) – output (009 or 530) / extra codes. Extra codes are 062 DNV (not with CO2), 775 DAkkS calibration service, 950 railway application (not with CO2), 951 and 952 DAkkS calibration with fixed points, and 994 integrated display. The example in the data sheet is 907043/12-0-17-009/994.

Four stock versions with order codes are listed with part numbers, covering RH-T and RH-T-CO2 variants with analog or RS485 output. Choose the plastic sinter filter for dusty duct air and the membrane filter where droplets may reach the probe.

Calculated values are provided as well: dew point, frost point, wet-bulb temperature, absolute humidity, mixing ratio, partial water vapor pressure and specific enthalpy, which lets an air-handling controller work directly from enthalpy or dew point rather than relative humidity alone.

Four stock versions are listed in the data sheet, covering the analog and RS485 outputs with and without CO2, so a common duct application can usually be served without a special build. Ask us to confirm availability for the version you need.

Duct installation and typical uses

Mount it in the duct so that the measuring point sits in the moving air, away from heating coils and cold surfaces so the reading represents the mixed air. Typical places are fresh-air intakes, air-handling units, cleanrooms, greenhouse air ducts and storage ventilation.

Where CO2 is ordered, remember that the CO2 version limits temperature to -10 to +60 °C. A display raises the lower ambient limit to -20 °C, so choose the display only where the housing area stays within range. The data sheet also warns that the CO2 module is sensitive to vibration, which matters on fan-mounted ducts.

Electrical details to plan for: DC 24 V with a tolerance of -33 % to +33 %, a maximum 2.4 W, a limited-energy circuit per DIN EN IEC 61010-1:2020, and spring-cage terminals. On the RS485 version, set the device address between 1 and 254 and use the default 38400 baud unless the network needs another rate.

For projects that need documented performance, DAkkS calibration at 20, 50 and 80 percent RH at 23 degrees Celsius can be ordered with extra code 951, and extra code 952 covers two points at 33 and 73 percent RH. Specify the test points in plain text for the service calibration code 775. Spare filters are listed under accessories.

Filters protect the sensor: the data sheet lists an 18 mm plastic sinter filter (part 00754581) and an 18 mm plastic membrane filter (30048149). Choose the sinter filter for dusty air and the membrane type where moisture or splashes can reach the probe.

Mount the duct unit so the probe sits in the middle of the air stream, away from heating coils and humidifier nozzles that would disturb the reading. The housing is IP65, and the cable fitting M16 x 1.5 takes cables of 4.5 to 10 mm.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.
