Brand:

Donaldson S 0035-1450 UltraPleat Coalescing Filter Element

Description

The finest standard grade of the UltraPleat range

The Donaldson S 0035-1450 is the UltraPleat S element, a pleated borosilicate glass fibre depth filter intended for the highest retention in the DF series: 99.8 percent of oil aerosol at 8 bar absolute, with a residual oil content below 0.01 mg/m3 at 3 mg/m3 inlet. It is the grade to put downstream of an M element when the following equipment, an adsorption dryer, a paint line or a process gas user, will not tolerate oil carry-over.

The same ten sizes as the M and V series cover 35 to 1,450 m3/h. The coding clip in the housing bowl lets the element run either as a coalescing filter or as a particle filter, and the support liners and bonding are listed in the table below.

Where S sits in the filter train

A typical station uses a V or CF element as the first stage, an M element as second stage and an S element where the cleanest air is required. Compared with the M type, S replaces the polyester fleece by borosilicate glass fibre; the data sheet quotes a particle retention of 99.99999 percent at 0.01 micrometre, one order of magnitude finer than the 99.999 percent listed for M.

Sizes follow the common ladder from 35 m3/h (0035) to 1,450 m3/h (1450); pick the element size from the compressed air flow at your operating pressure.

Using the validation data

The certificate in the data sheet reports retention bands from 0.19 up to 1.78 micrometre. Always read the figures against the stated test condition, 8 bar absolute and a 10 mg/m3 oil inlet concentration, because the residual oil at the outlet depends on the inlet load in your own system. Donaldson names chemical and pharmaceutical, PCB and CD manufacturing, surface finishing, machine building and energy as application industries.

Differential pressure of element plus housing, dry and oil-saturated, is plotted up to 300 mbar; use it to plan the replacement interval in the same way as for M, S needs a slightly higher pressure budget because of the finer media.

About brand

Donaldson is the American filtration company founded in Minnesota in 1915. It started when Frank Donaldson Sr. built an air cleaner for a tractor engine that kept failing in dusty fields. It is now headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, and makes filters and filtration systems for engines, hydraulics, compressed air and gases, dust collection and process liquids.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Donaldson compressed air dryers and filters, gas filter housings, activated carbon adsorbers, hydraulic and fuel filtration and dust collectors, and supply them and their replacement elements in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1915: Frank Donaldson Sr. builds an air cleaner for a tractor that kept failing in a dusty field; the family starts Donaldson Company in Minnesota.
  • 1917: Air cleaners are supplied for artillery tractors.
  • 1920s: Exhaust products are added after crop fires caused by engine sparks.
  • 1974: Donaldson acquires Torit, the dust collector business.
  • 2015: The company marks its 100th year.

Compressed air quality is set by ISO 8573-1 classes for particles, water and oil. A typical instrument air system uses a coarse filter and a fine coalescing filter before the dryer, an adsorption dryer for a low pressure dew point (for example -40 °C), and a dust filter after it. An activated carbon stage removes oil vapour where the air touches food or is breathed. Heatless dryers use some of the dry air to regenerate the desiccant, while heat-regenerated and zero-purge types save that air on larger systems.

Where Donaldson products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Donaldson filters and dryers are used for instrument and plant air in oil and gas, refining, power and desalination plants, for breathing air, in food and pharmaceutical production, on hydraulic systems and fuel storage, and in cement and bulk handling.

Ordering Donaldson products: what we need

Send the model and size from the nameplate. For dryers and filters, add the flow (m³/h or scfm), working pressure, inlet temperature, required dew point or ISO 8573-1 class, and the supply voltage. For replacement elements, send the element part number or the housing model.
