VEGA VEGATRENN 141 Ex Separator for 4-20 mA HART Sensors
Description
An intrinsically safe isolator that passes HART through untouched
The VEGATRENN 141 is a single-channel Ex separator used for galvanic separation, intrinsically safe power supply and signal transmission of Ex-approved 4…20 mA/HART sensors in hazardous areas. VEGA says it is a universal Ex separator for all 4…20 mA/HART sensors and is used in all industries. The sensor current is transferred linearly and galvanically separated to an active 4…20 mA/HART output, with bidirectional HART transmission: the HART signal can be tapped via front-mounted communication sockets or the terminals, which allows unrestricted access to the sensor settings from the safe area.

What an Ex separator does
The separator limits the energy that can pass into the hazardous area, so a sensor in an explosive atmosphere stays intrinsically safe, while a galvanic barrier isolates the sensor loop from the control-room loop and removes ground loops. The VEGATRENN 141 supplies the sensor from the module itself, delivering an off-load voltage of 24 V DC with a short-circuit current under 26 mA, and passes the measured value on through an active output so a PLC input receives a standard 4…20 mA signal.
HART handling and ordering
The front sockets let a technician plug a HART handheld in without opening the cabinet. A second output version with a looped HART resistor is shown on the wiring plan. The VEGATRENN works with VEGA radar, guided wave, pressure and level sensors and with third-party HART transmitters, but the intrinsically safe parameters must match the sensor certificate, so state the sensor, the Ex zone and the approval marking in your RFQ and confirm them against VEGA’s documents.
An isolating repeater is typically chosen where a signal passes between different earth potentials or into a safety-relevant system, since the galvanic separation keeps faults on one side from reaching the other. Give the signal range, supply, channel count and any hazardous-area requirement in your enquiry, and confirm the approvals printed on the specification sheet with the manufacturer before ordering for an Ex loop.

About brand
VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used
VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.
Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need
The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
