AMETEK 120HD Portable Hydrogen Analyzer, 0 to 25 Percent H2
Description
The AMETEK 120HD is a battery-operated, fully portable hydrogen analyzer that reports the percent by volume of hydrogen in a gas sample as a digital reading. It is used where a technician needs a quick check on hydrogen levels in air or steam atmospheres, for example in turbine halls, on ships and during lead-acid battery charging.
Seven Star LLC supplies the 120HD from Muscat with its manufacturer data sheet available before quotation.
Katharometer principle for hydrogen in air
The 120HD functions as a katharometer. Two parallel tubes each contain gas and heating coils, and the instrument compares the rate at which heat is lost from the coils into the gas. The coils sit in a bridge circuit so the resistance change from unequal cooling can be measured. One channel holds moisture-saturated air as the reference, and the mixture under test is passed through the other channel. Hydrogen has a much higher thermal conductivity than air, so the analyzer is very sensitive to it. AMETEK points out that it will respond to any gas whose thermal conductivity differs from that of air, so the reading represents hydrogen only where hydrogen is the one gas expected to differ in conductivity from air.
- Battery-operated and fully portable
- Non-destructive: the sample can be used after analysis
- All wetted surfaces are stainless steel
- Measurement unaffected by changes in ambient temperature or pressure
- Factory-calibrated

Where it is used and what to confirm before ordering
AMETEK lists on-ship use, turbine halls and lead-acid battery charging as applications, with research and development and hydrogen in air or steam as key markets. Because the katharometer responds to any gas that conducts heat differently from air, confirm what other gases may be present in the sample, that the sample is within the 25% range and 5 psig limit, and that the ambient range of 10 to 38 degC suits the site. The unit is a portable instrument and is not described in the data sheet as hazardous-area certified, so confirm area classification requirements separately with the manufacturer.
Documents and quotation
To request a quotation for the 120HD analyzer, send Seven Star LLC the full model or order code, quantity, and any nameplate data from an existing unit that is being replaced or matched. Our Muscat team checks the request against the manufacturer document, which can be downloaded from this page, and replies with a formal quotation. Prices, stock and lead times are confirmed per inquiry.

About brand
Process analyzers for sulfur recovery, moisture and combustion are the AMETEK products most often requested by gas plants and refineries. AMETEK, a US instrument manufacturer founded in 1930 and based in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, sells them under names such as Western Research, Thermox and Drexelbrook. Seven Star LLC lists AMETEK gas analyzers, analyzer spare parts and level transmitters, and sources them for process plants in Oman.
AMETEK analyzers and parts listed
The AMETEK products on this page include:
- 5100HD and the transportable 5100P: tunable diode laser (TDLAS) analyzers, used for example for moisture in natural gas
- 3050-OLV: process moisture analyzer, with spare boards such as 305110902S
- Thermox WDG-V: flue gas oxygen analyzer for combustion control
- Western Research 900 air demand analyzer and 930 analyzer for H2S in sulfur pits
- Drexelbrook RCT-1210 RF level transmitter
- Spare parts: PCB assemblies, a protected gold mirror and hollow cathode lamps
Where AMETEK analyzers are used
The 900 air demand analyzer sits on the tail gas of a Claus sulfur recovery unit and measures H2S and SO2 so the air to the reaction furnace can be trimmed. The 930 watches the vapor space of the sulfur pit. Moisture analyzers such as the 3050-OLV and 5100HD serve gas dehydration, pipeline and LNG feed gas, and the Thermox WDG-V measures excess oxygen on fired heaters and boilers. These duties are common in gas processing and refining across the GCC.
Ordering AMETEK analyzers and spares: what we need
For spare parts, send the AMETEK part number, the analyzer model and its serial number. Boards and optical parts change with analyzer revision, and the serial number lets the build be checked in the manufacturer's records. For a new analyzer we need the stream composition, the component and range to be measured, sample pressure and temperature, area classification, power supply, outputs and whether a sample system or shelter is included. For Drexelbrook level transmitters give the full model number, the probe length and the process material.
