Cortem SA-SAG Aluminium Ex eb Junction Boxes, 18 Sizes

Description

Aluminium Ex eb junction boxes in 18 sizes for Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22

The Cortem SA and SAG series are increased-safety (Ex eb) junction and terminal boxes made from low-copper aluminium alloy with an electrostatically applied, stainless-particle polyester coating baked at 200 °C for UV, thermal and salt-mist resistance. They are used as junction boxes and to route analogue, digital, control and signalling cables to control rooms from motors, pumps and field instruments such as flow, level, temperature and pressure transmitters.

Two wall thicknesses are offered. SA models are the lightweight series with thinner walls and plain through holes only; SAG models are the heavy-duty series with extra-thick walls (7 mm), so the body can take threaded entries and connect directly to pipes and fittings with tapered threads. The same boxes can be supplied with Ex i terminals, with equipment such as fieldbus modules, proximitors or heaters, or as control and signalling enclosures.

Terminal capacity, options and what to confirm

The datasheet gives the maximum number of terminals by cross-section, for example 11 terminals of 1.5 mm2 in the SA090907 and two rows of 70 in the SA302310, based on Cabur or Weidmuller terminals as a rough guide. Only ATEX-certified terminals from approved makers (Cabur, Phoenix, ABB Entrelec, Wago, Weidmuller) may be used, Ex i terminals are blue and must be separated from Ex e terminals, and permitted dissipation falls by 25 percent and rated current by 15 percent for +60 or +65 °C ambient.

Options include anti-condensation interior coating RAL 2004, external colours, breather and drain valves, a stainless steel mounting plate, terminal rails and a single centre hole in the bottom (1 inch NPT or M32x1.5). Holes are drilled by Cortem or an ATEX-notified partner. Confirm the size and terminal count, the required temperature class, whether Ex i circuits are present and the cable gland sizes.

About brand

Cortem is an Italian manufacturer of electrical equipment for environments with a risk of explosion and fire. Cortem S.p.A., the main company of Cortem Group, was founded in 1968 in Villesse, Italy, and the group today supplies industrial plants, offshore platforms, refineries and shipyards with certified products for hazardous areas.

Explosion-protected product range

The catalogue covers junction boxes in aluminium, stainless steel and GRP, control and command stations, metal cable glands and connectors, plugs and sockets, LED floodlights, linear and high-bay luminaires, hand lamps, signalling and obstruction lights, and weatherproof series equipment. Products are certified to ATEX and IECEx, with UKEX and other schemes available according to the model.

Applications and documentation

Typical sectors named by the company include oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, mining, shipbuilding and traditional and green energy. Each product family has a datasheet with the marking, zones, temperature classes and certificate numbers, so the equipment can be matched to a hazardous area classification before ordering.

Sourcing through Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC supplies Cortem products to customers in Oman and the GCC and quotes against the model code, zone and certificate requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SA and SAG?
SA is the lightweight thin-wall series with through holes; SAG is heavy duty with 7 mm walls that accept threaded entries.
What protection concept do these boxes use?
Increased safety Ex eb, with Ex ia variants for intrinsically safe circuits, plus Ex tb for dust.
How many sizes are available?
The datasheet lists 18 codes from 90 x 90 mm up to 600 x 600 mm.
What is the maximum rated voltage?
1000 Vac/dc for the junction box with terminals, as printed in the datasheet.
Can Ex i and Ex e terminals share a box?
Yes with separation and clear marking; Ex i terminals are blue and entries must be identified.
