Minimax FSX Deluge Valve Set (DN 50 to DN 200)

Description

Overview

The Minimax FSX is a complete deluge valve set for water spray and fine water spray extinguishing systems in which the pipework is fitted with open nozzles. Minimax recommends deluge valve sets wherever water has to be discharged over larger areas through an appropriate number of nozzles at the same time. When the set operates, a hydraulically driven alarm gong sounds locally and an electric alarm is transmitted to a permanently manned location such as the fire brigade, while the nozzle pipework floods. The set can be activated electrically, pneumatically or hydraulically, and an additional manual release is always provided.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Minimax FSX deluge valve set in sizes DN 50 to DN 200 to fire protection contractors, EPC companies and plant owners in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. We can supply complete sets for new water spray systems and support the replacement of existing deluge stations.

Operating Principle

As in other deluge designs, the Minimax FSX valve is held closed by water pressure in its control chamber. As long as this pressure is maintained, the valve stays shut and the downstream nozzle network remains dry. When the pressure in the control chamber is released, the supply pressure lifts the valve open and water flows to all open nozzles in the protected zone at once. The three activation modes of the Minimax FSX differ only in how that control chamber pressure is released. With hydraulic activation, the pilot line is connected directly to the control chamber and carries the system pressure of the water supply; if a pilot sprinkler opens, the pressure drops and the deluge valve opens.

With pneumatic activation of the Minimax FSX, the pilot line is filled with compressed air and fitted with sprinklers or special heat sensors, and an automatic compressed air replenishment system maintains the pressure to avoid nuisance operation. A diaphragm valve sits between the pneumatic pilot line and the control chamber; when a sprinkler or heat sensor releases, the air pressure falls, the diaphragm valve opens and the deluge valve trips. This version is particularly suitable for areas exposed to frost. With electric activation, a fire detection system triggers a solenoid impulse valve, which relieves the control chamber. In every mode the electric alarm and the acoustic alarm gong are released.

Engineering Design of the Minimax FSX

The Minimax FSX is delivered as a set with pre-assembled trimming, so the valve, alarm devices, pressure gauges and control components arrive ready for installation. Minimax highlights its low weight and compact design, corrosion-resistant internal parts, reduced pressure loss and suitability for high flow rates. A cushioned closing action prevents water hammer, and every set is functionally and pressure tested by the manufacturer before delivery. The gate valve can be pulled either from the side or towards the front, which helps fit the station into a confined valve room.

The Minimax FSX set is available in five nominal sizes, DN 50, DN 80, DN 100, DN 150 and DN 200, all rated for a maximum permissible pressure of PS 16, with flange-to-flange or groove-to-groove connections. Alarm signalling is through a pressure switch with potential-free contacts, one normally open and one normally closed. For electrically activated sets, Minimax offers a remote panel for manual activation from another location, and an optional external operating unit allows remote-controlled re-setting, so that the water supply can be interrupted to limit water damage and the system recommissioned to restore protection.

Key Features

The advantages of the Minimax FSX listed in the manufacturer’s product sheet are:

  • Pre-assembled trimming that allows fast installation of the complete valve station.
  • Low weight and a compact design that reduces the space required in the valve room.
  • Corrosion-resistant internal parts for long service in water-filled systems.
  • A high permissible operating pressure of 16 bar and reduced pressure loss at high flow rates.
  • Cushioned closing action that prevents water hammer in the pipe network.
  • Hydraulic, pneumatic, electric and manual activation options, with alarm gong and pressure switch in every mode.
  • Functional and pressure testing of each valve set by the manufacturer.
  • Optional remote panel for manual control and external operating unit for remote re-setting, with VdS and FM approvals.

Industrial Applications

Minimax lists machinery protection, industrial presses, transformer stations, tank cooling, cable ducts, recycling systems, painting systems and theatre stages as typical fields for water spray and fine water spray systems using the Minimax FSX. In Oman these duties are found at power stations and grid substations with oil-filled transformers, at tank farms and loading facilities where storage tanks need cooling water, in cable tunnels of industrial plants, at recycling and waste handling sites in Muscat and Sohar, and in manufacturing plants in the free zones of Duqm and Salalah. The pneumatic version suits unheated locations, while the electric version is normally paired with a fire detection and extinguishing control panel.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Minimax FSX for these projects and can coordinate it with related fire fighting equipment. Customers planning gas-based protection for electrical rooms alongside water spray zones often look at the Kidde FM-200 200 Lb Clean Agent Fire Suppression Cylinder and the Kidde WK-890181-000 Electric Control Head, and Minimax users can configure their control systems with the Minimax MxSysCon Fire Control Configuration Software with Dongle.

About brand

Fire detection and extinguishing systems for industrial plants, data centers and logistics buildings are the business of Minimax, based in Bad Oldesloe, Germany. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Oman and lists one Minimax item at present: the MxSysCon fire control configuration software, supplied with its licence dongle. We also take inquiries for Minimax fire protection components and spare parts identified by part number.

Minimax systems the software and parts belong to

The manufacturer's program covers fire detection and extinguishing control panels of the FMZ family, UniVario flame and heat detectors and HELIOS aspirating smoke detectors. On the extinguishing side it builds deluge and other water-based systems, Minifog water mist, Oxeo inert gas and carbon dioxide systems, and spark extinguishing. Panel configuration software is tied to a specific panel generation. We did not find the name MxSysCon in the manufacturer's public documents, so the software version has to be checked against your panel type.

Ordering Minimax items: what we need

Send the Minimax part number, the type and firmware version of the control panel, and a photo of the panel label. For detectors, nozzles or valves, add the nameplate data and the approval the project specifies. Minimax systems are engineered per site, so a component is only correct when it matches the original system documents. We check that match for buyers across the GCC before the order is placed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes is the Minimax FSX deluge valve set available in?
The product sheet lists nominal diameters DN 50, DN 80, DN 100, DN 150 and DN 200, all with a maximum permissible pressure of PS 16.
How can the FSX deluge valve set be activated?
It can be activated hydraulically through a wet pilot line, pneumatically through a compressed air pilot line with sprinklers or heat sensors, electrically through a solenoid impulse valve, and manually.
