Brand:

Elkhart Brass CJ-B-500 500 gpm Master Stream Nozzle

Description

A fixed-gallonage brass nozzle for 500 gpm monitors

The Elkhart Brass Select-O-Stream CJ-B-500 is a constant-flow master stream nozzle rated for 500 gpm (1900 LPM) at 100 psi (7 bar). It has a fully machined waterway for stream quality and a 2.5 in NHT female swivel inlet that threads onto the 2.5 in male outlet of an Elkhart monitor. The pattern is changed under flowing conditions from straight stream to 90 degree fog, there is a no-twist shutoff and a grease fitting for the tip threads. Elkhart states the Select-O-Stream nozzles are FM Approved, and the data sheet lists FM Approved 5511.

The nozzle can flow water or premixed foam solution, and the body is rugged brass UNS C84400 with a satin and cast brass finish.

Because the flow is fixed, the nozzle is simple to specify: the monitor, the supply line and the pump are sized for 500 gpm at 100 psi, and the operator only chooses the stream pattern. The data sheet lists discharge across a range of inlet pressures, so the delivered flow at a lower or higher pressure can be read from the table rather than estimated. The 12.5 lb weight is modest for a brass master stream nozzle, which matters where it sits on the outlet of a manually aimed monitor.

Operation and care

Stand behind the nozzle and turn the tip with the handles to change the pattern. Turning the tip clockwise to its furthest forward position gives straight stream, and turning counterclockwise widens the fog through to wide fog; arrows with SS and FOG show the direction. Elkhart advises inspecting the nozzle after each use and at least monthly when idle, checking for damage and for nests when not used for long periods, and operating the tip through its full range several times.

After each use, with the nozzle in straight stream, wipe the inside of the tip and apply a thin coat of grease; Elkhart recommends Dow Corning #7 lubricant. If the nozzle has a grease fitting, one quick shot is enough, and over-greasing should be avoided.

Confirm before ordering

Confirm the flow (350 or 500 gpm), the inlet thread against the monitor outlet, finish, and whether the cable-operated RC version is needed. The attached Elkhart data sheet gives reach and discharge tables. Send details for a quotation, and see more Fire Fighting equipment.

How the Elkhart CJ-B-500 works

Water or foam solution enters the nozzle through the 2.5 inch swivel inlet and flows through a machined waterway. At the tip, a movable part shapes the stream. Turning the tip changes the pattern from a straight, far-reaching stream to a wide fog that protects people and cools surfaces. The nozzle keeps the flow at a set value of 500 gpm at 100 psi, whatever the pattern.

Where the CJ-B-500 is used

  • Fire monitors on trucks and trailers
  • Fixed monitors in plants
  • Oil and gas facilities
  • Industrial fire protection
  • Foam solution discharge

Selection checklist for the CJ-B-500

  • Rated flow: 350 or 500 gpm versions
  • Inlet thread of 2.5 inch NHT
  • Water or foam solution
  • Manual or cable-adjusted pattern
  • Monitor outlet compatibility
  • Supply line and pump size
  • Body material: brass or aluminium
  • Reach needed

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the CJ-B-500

Thread the nozzle onto the 2.5 inch male outlet of the monitor and tighten by hand with the swivel. Flush the line before use to clear debris. Test the pattern change and the shutoff with water. After use with foam, rinse the nozzle and grease the tip threads at the fitting.
