VEGA VEGABAR 83 High Pressure Transmitter with Metallic Cell

Description

Overview of the VEGA VEGABAR 83

The VEGA VEGABAR 83 is a process pressure transmitter with a fully welded metallic measuring cell for gauge, absolute and vacuum measurement of gases, vapours and liquids. VEGA positions it for applications with high process pressure: its range extends from −1 to +1000 bar, while the smallest nominal range of 0.1 bar still allows precise low-pressure and hydrostatic level measurement. Accuracy classes down to 0.075 %, process temperatures up to +200 °C and a wide choice of threaded, flanged and hygienic fittings make it a universal choice across industries.

Seven Star LLC supplies the VEGA VEGABAR 83 to oil and gas operators, utilities, food producers and chemical plants in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. As a supplier with engineering support in Muscat, we confirm the nominal range, overload requirement, process fitting, seal material and approvals for every tag, and supply the VEGA specification sheet and operating instructions with the offer.

Measuring Principle

The heart of the VEGA VEGABAR 83 is its completely welded metallic measuring cell, which converts pressure via the integrated electronics into a standardised output signal. VEGA uses three sensing technologies depending on the range. Up to 40 bar, a piezoresistive element behind the diaphragm is coupled through an internal transmission liquid. From 100 bar upward, a strain gauge element is applied to the rear of the stainless steel diaphragm, forming a dry system with no isolating liquid at all, which is well suited to hydraulic and very high pressure duties.

For process temperatures up to +200 °C and larger fittings, VEGA uses the METEC element, which combines the ceramic-capacitive CERTEC measuring cell with a special temperature-compensated seal system. The vacuum-resistant design maintains measurement reliability when the process is evacuated, and the step response of the standard version is no more than 80 ms. Damping can be adjusted from 0 to 999 seconds to smooth pulsating pressures from pumps and compressors.

Engineering Design of the VEGA VEGABAR 83

Process fittings start at G½ and ½ NPT threads and flanges from DN 16 or 1 inch, and extend to hygienic connections such as DIN 11851 slotted nut, DIN 11864, Varivent and SMS fittings for food and pharmaceutical plants. Wetted parts are made of 316L or Alloy C276, with FKM, FFKM or EPDM seals where the cell design needs them. Housings are single chamber versions in plastic, aluminium or stainless steel, with protection ratings up to IP68 (25 bar) using external electronics and IP69 for washdown areas.

Electronics options include two-wire 4–20 mA and 4–20 mA/HART, and fully digital Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus versions; the two-wire version operates from 9.6 to 35 V DC. A slave sensor variant allows two VEGABAR 80 series transmitters to form an electronic differential pressure measurement. Configuration is carried out with the PLICSCOM display and adjustment module, PACTware and DTM, or wirelessly via Bluetooth from a smartphone, tablet or PC.

Industrial Applications

VEGA recommends the VEGA VEGABAR 83 for process pressure and level in high-pressure processes such as hydraulic circuits, pipeline pressure measurement, bitumen level in asphalt mixing plants and storage tank level in dairies, as well as gas scrubbers and autoclaves. In Oman, the instrument is well suited to wellhead and flowline pressure monitoring, water injection and high-pressure pump discharge at oil fields, gas compression stations, and hydraulic power units on drilling rigs and process skids. Its vacuum-resistant cell also handles evacuated vessels in chemical plants in Sohar.

The hygienic versions serve dairy, juice and food factories in Muscat and Salalah, where pressure and hydrostatic level must be measured with cleanable fittings. Seven Star LLC supplies the VEGA VEGABAR 83 with suitable mounting accessories and can recommend alternatives such as the VEGA VEGABAR 82 ceramic cell pressure transmitter, the VEGA VEGABAR 64 pressure transmitter and the Yokogawa EJA430E gauge pressure transmitter, or

the VEGA VEGADIF 85 differential pressure transmitter

for true differential pressure duties.

About brand
Yellow housings on tanks and silos usually mean VEGA. The company, founded in 1959 in Schiltach in Germany's Black Forest, concentrates on level, point level and pressure measurement. Seven Star LLC lists VEGA radar and guided wave radar level sensors, vibrating and capacitive level switches, pressure transmitters and display units, and sources them for process plants and utilities in Oman.

VEGA product families on this page

VEGA product names state the measuring principle:
  • VEGAPULS: non-contact radar level sensors, including VEGAPULS 6X, VEGAPULS 64, VEGAPULS 69 and the compact VEGAPULS C21
  • VEGAFLEX 81 and 86: guided wave radar level sensors, and VEGAPASS 81, a bypass tube that is combined with a VEGAFLEX to measure outside the vessel
  • VEGASWING 61 and 63: vibrating fork level switches for liquids
  • VEGAPOINT 21: compact capacitive point level switch
  • VEGABAR 82: process pressure transmitter with ceramic measuring cell
  • VEGADIS 176: external display for 4-20 mA loops
Most VEGA transmitters share the plics modular concept: housing, electronics and the PLICSCOM display module are common across measuring principles, which keeps spare parts simple.

Where VEGA sensors and transmitters are used

VEGA level transmitters are common on crude and product tanks, separators, chemical storage, water and wastewater basins, and cement or aggregate silos across the GCC. Vibrating switches serve as overfill and dry-run protection on pumps and vessels. VEGA pressure transmitters measure process pressure and hydrostatic level in liquids and gases.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

A VEGA device is fully described by its order code and serial number. A code such as FX81.ICEAIFAXKMAM starts with the device type (FX81 is a VEGAFLEX 81, PS64 a VEGAPULS 64, B82 a VEGABAR 82) and continues with letters for approval, process fitting, seal, electronics and housing. Send that code, or the serial number from the type label, and we can check the exact build in VEGA documentation. For a new point, add the medium, vessel height, nozzle size, pressure, temperature and area classification.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pressure range does the VEGA VEGABAR 83 cover?
The VEGABAR 83 measures from −1 to +1000 bar, with nominal gauge ranges from 0–0.1 bar up to 0–1000 bar, plus vacuum, compound and absolute ranges. Overload capability is given per range in the operating instructions, for example 1500 bar for the 1000 bar range.
Which sensor technologies are used inside the VEGABAR 83?
For ranges up to 40 bar a piezoresistive element with internal transmission liquid is used. From 100 bar a strain gauge element on the rear of the stainless steel diaphragm operates as a dry system without isolating liquid. For temperatures up to +200 °C and larger fittings, the METEC element combines a ceramic-capacitive CERTEC cell with a temperature-compensated seal system.
How accurate and stable is the VEGABAR 83?
Accuracy classes of 0.075 %, 0.1 % and 0.2 % are available depending on range and fitting. For the ceramic/metallic cell VEGA specifies long-term stability below 0.05 % × TD per year and below 0.15 % × TD over ten years.
Can two VEGABAR 83 transmitters measure differential pressure?
Yes. VEGA offers a secondary (slave) sensor version, and a VEGABAR 83 combined with a slave sensor forms an electronic differential pressure measurement. This avoids impulse lines and capillaries on tall vessels, for example for level in pressurised tanks.
Does Seven Star LLC supply the VEGA VEGABAR 83 in Oman?
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies VEGA pressure transmitters to customers in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat for range, fitting and approval selection.
