Masoneilan 87/88 Ultra-Low Temperature Kits, Actuator Spare Parts (-50 to 100 °C)

Description

Overview

The Masoneilan 87/88 ultra-low temperature kits are the four actuator spare parts kits that Baker Hughes describes as “Low & High Temp. -50 to 100°C”: 720050176-999-0000 for size 6, 720050178-999-0000 for size 10, 720050180-999-0000 for size 16 and 720050182-999-0000 for size 23. Each number follows directly after the standard kit of its size in the same 7200501xx block, which makes them easy to confuse on a stores shelf. The distinction is the −50°C lower limit, the coldest design temperature published for the 87/88 actuator.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the Masoneilan 87/88 ultra-low temperature kits to Oman and GCC operators who maintain cold-service actuators on liquefied gas, regasification and refrigeration equipment, and always checks the temperature option on the actuator before quoting.

Part Number Pairs: Standard Versus −50°C

Baker Hughes numbers the 87/88 kits so that each size has a standard kit and a −50°C kit one digit apart. Reading the fact sheet closely avoids ordering the wrong one.

Actuator size Standard kit (-30 to 83°C) Ultra-low kit (-50 to 100°C) Extended kit (-40 to 100°C)
6 720050175-999-0000 720050176-999-0000 720054349-999-0000
10 720050177-999-0000 720050178-999-0000 720054350-999-0000
16 720050179-999-0000 720050180-999-0000 720054351-999-0000
23 720050181-999-0000 720050182-999-0000 720054352-999-0000

Only the middle column belongs to this page. The long-stroke 23L has one published kit, the standard 720065596-999-0000, so no ultra-low 23L kit appears in the table.

Masoneilan 87/88 Ultra-Low Temperature Kits: Materials

The −50°C option changes slightly more than the −40°C option. The manual lists the connector cap screw (5), rod scraper (11a), O-rings 12, 13 and 85, diaphragm 25 and yokes 31 and 31a. The cap screw becomes ASTM A193 Grade B8 Class 2 stainless steel, the diaphragm silicone rubber with Dacron fabric, the O-rings silicone, and the yoke ASTM A352 Gr. LC1 with HRc 22 maximum, rather than the LCC grade used at −40°C. These differences are why the fact sheet gives the Masoneilan 87/88 ultra-low temperature kits their own numbers: a −50°C actuator cannot be serviced with a −40°C kit, and certainly not with a standard nitrile kit.

Cold-Service Practice for the Masoneilan 87/88 Ultra-Low Temperature Kits

Never apply silicone grease to the orange silicone parts; use a fluorinated grease such as NIPPON KOYU LOGENEST LAMBDA or equal in place of Dow Corning Compound III. Assemble to the Table 3 torque values and tighten in steps: 21 ft-lb for size 6, 25 for size 10, 30 for size 16 and 31 for size 23 (28, 34, 40 and 42 N-m), tolerance ±10 percent. In cold service the handwheel bearing (item 34) should be repacked with a grease whose low-temperature rating suits the site minimum; the manual quotes Mobilux No. 2 or equal for standard conditions.

Industrial Applications

Masoneilan lists liquefaction, regasification, refrigeration and separation among the 87/88 actuator markets, together with midstream and upstream oil and gas. In Oman these point to LNG-related facilities and gas-processing packages, where the actuator may sit on a cold valve and see swings between desert heat and process cold. The Masoneilan 87/88 ultra-low temperature kits keep their silicone parts flexible at −50°C and survive +100°C. The complete actuator is on the Type 87/88 actuator page, and the size 10 standard kit is on its own page for comparison.

Matching the Masoneilan 87/88 Ultra-Low Temperature Kits to the Actuator

Two checks identify the temperature class of an actuator that needs the Masoneilan 87/88 ultra-low temperature kits: the serial plate (model number, serial number, supply pressure and possibly a QR code) and the diaphragm colour when the case is first opened. Orange silicone means one of the two wider classes; black nitrile means standard. Between the −40°C and −50°C classes only the order record or Baker Hughes service history is reliable, so ask us to check it. The long-stroke 23L has one published kit, the standard 720065596-999-0000, so no ultra-low 23L kit is listed.

About brand
Masoneilan has built control valves since 1882, and its Camflex eccentric plug rotary valve and 21000 series globe valve are fixtures in refineries, gas plants and power stations. Every valve carries a serial number and a long model number that defines the actuator, body and trim. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Masoneilan control valves, actuators, regulators, positioners and level instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. We source complete valves as well as Masoneilan spare parts against that nameplate data.

Masoneilan control valves and actuator series

The globe valve listing centers on the 21000 series, including the cryogenic version with extension bonnet, and the 41005 cage-guided series in high pressure, API 6A and VRT anti-cavitation executions. The 80385 and 80386 are three-way combining and diverting valves. Rotary products include the 35002 Camflex II and the 37002 MiniTork II butterfly control valve. Actuators cover spring-diaphragm, cylinder and rack-and-pinion designs, among them the 5A cylinder actuator for Camflex II. Masoneilan also makes pressure regulators, SVI digital valve positioners and displacer-type level instruments, and offers Lo-dB trim for noise control.

Where Masoneilan valves are used

Throttling duty on steam, hydrocarbons, gas and water is the daily work of these valves: feedwater and steam conditioning in power plants, separator and compressor loops in gas processing, high pressure drop letdown, cryogenic service in LNG and air separation, and general flow, pressure and level control in refineries and chemical plants.

Ordering Masoneilan valves and spare parts: what we need

For spare parts the serial number is decisive, since the factory record behind it lists trim, materials and actuator. Send a clear nameplate photo with serial number, model number, size and pressure class. For a new valve add the process data: fluid, inlet and outlet pressure, temperature, minimum, normal and maximum flow, required leakage class, fail position, air supply and control signal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Masoneilan 87/88 kits cover -50 degrees C?
Baker Hughes lists 720050176-999-0000 (size 6), 720050178-999-0000 (size 10), 720050180-999-0000 (size 16) and 720050182-999-0000 (size 23) as "Low & High Temp. -50 to 100°C".
How do the -50 C and -40 C kits differ?
Both use silicone rubber diaphragm and O-rings. The -50 C option also changes the connector cap screw (item 5) to ASTM A193 Grade B8 Class 2 and uses an ASTM A352 Gr. LC1 yoke, while the -40 C option uses an LCC yoke.
Why does each size have two or three similar kit numbers?
Baker Hughes publishes separate kits for the standard, -40 C and -50 C temperature classes. Matching the kit to the actuator temperature construction is essential, so check the nameplate or order record.
What grease should be used on silicone parts?
The manual says not to use silicone grease on the silicone rubber parts and recommends a fluorinated grease such as NIPPON KOYU LOGENEST LAMBDA or equal.
Is Seven Star LLC a trusted supplier for Masoneilan products?
Yes. Seven Star LLC supplies genuine Masoneilan products across Oman and the GCC and supplies kits, actuators and valves with Baker Hughes documentation and local support from Muscat.
