Operating Principle
The MTL 9608 operates as a passive fieldbus wiring hub: it does not process signals itself but provides the certified physical infrastructure that lets a single fieldbus trunk segment branch out to multiple field instruments through Megablock spur connectors mounted on its internal DIN rail. The trunk cable enters through a dedicated gland, terminates on the Megablock wiring block, and each of the eight spur circuits then distributes power and communication to an individual field transmitter, positioner or analyzer, with integral terminators available where the 9608 sits at the physical end of a segment.

The hinged lid seals against a silicone gasket and incorporates a rain channel that diverts standing water away from the terminal chamber whenever the door is opened, protecting the one-piece seal from damage during routine maintenance in exposed outdoor installations.
Internally, the box is fitted with a single DIN rail to EN50022 (35 x 7.5mm ‘T’ section) mounted vertically with end stops, providing 166mm of rail length – enough for the Megablock components needed for an 8-way trunk-in configuration. All nine glanding positions are located in the base of the enclosure with a minimum 75mm clearance to the terminal blocks, easing termination of both standard and wire-armoured cable, and the box is supplied with a choice of stainless steel or nickel-plated brass glands, an M10 earth stud, a breather plug and an adhesive-backed Traffolyte tag label.
