WIKA PSM01 Compact Pressure Switch

Description

Overview

WIKA PSM01 is a compact mechanical pressure switch engineered as a screw-in switch for hydraulics, pneumatics, mobile working machines, and general machine building applications. Available in diaphragm or piston design, the WIKA PSM01 opens or closes an electrical circuit as pressure rises or falls past a defined threshold, and requires no supply voltage to switch – a defining advantage of mechanical pressure switches over their electronic counterparts.

Backed by manufacturer datasheet documentation, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the WIKA PSM01 pressure switch to industrial, OEM, and machine building customers across Oman and the wider GCC. Every unit supplied through Seven Star LLC comes with manufacturer documentation and access to local technical support – supporting facility engineers and procurement teams in Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah who specify the WIKA PSM01.

Working Principle

The WIKA PSM01 uses a diaphragm or piston measuring element that responds directly to process pressure, mechanically actuating a switch contact once the pressure crosses the field- or factory-set threshold. A preloaded spring establishes the switch point, and a Belleville spring provides simultaneous triggering of the switch contact; the resulting snap-action behavior increases both switching stability and vibration resistance compared with a gradual, non-snap mechanical response. Because the switching action is entirely mechanical, no supply voltage is required for the switch itself to operate – it simply opens or closes a circuit as an electromechanical relay would, powered only by the process pressure it is monitoring.

This mechanical architecture gives the WIKA PSM01 its defining reliability advantage in applications where electrical power to the switch point itself is undesirable or impractical: the diaphragm design covers setting ranges up to 60 bar overload safety, while the piston design extends coverage up to 350 bar, with the setting range always kept below the overload safety limit so that pressure spikes can be safely absorbed without damaging the switch mechanism. An adjustment screw allows convenient on-site setting of the required switch point, and WIKA can optionally supply the switch pre-set to the customer’s required trip point from the factory.

Engineering Design of the WIKA PSM01

The WIKA PSM01 is available with setting ranges from 0.2 to 2 bar (3 to 30 psi) up to 30 to 320 bar (450 to 4,600 psi), plus a vacuum range of -0.85 to -0.15 bar (-25 inHg to -5 inHg), covering pressure, vacuum, and compound applications from a single compact switch platform. Non-repeatability of the switch point is ≤2% of span, and switching functions are configurable as normally closed, normally open, or change-over (SPDT) contact, giving control system designers flexibility in how the switch signal is wired into a safety or control circuit.

The switch enclosure is constructed from robust stainless steel 316 with IP66 / NEMA 4X ingress protection, standing 50 mm tall in the blade-terminal version with spanner widths of 24 and 27 mm for straightforward socket-wrench installation. The compact, slim form factor makes the PSM01 well suited to both OEM integration into compact machine assemblies and low-volume replacement or retrofit orders, and the switch is rated for compressed air, neutral and self-lubricating fluids, and neutral gases.

Key Features

The WIKA PSM01 combines mechanical simplicity with rugged, repeatable switching performance that makes it a standard choice for OEM and industrial pressure switching applications.

  • No supply voltage is required for the switching process, since the mechanism is entirely mechanical.
  • Setting ranges span 0.2 to 2 bar up to 30 to 320 bar, plus a vacuum range down to -0.85 bar, from a single switch platform.
  • Non-repeatability of the switch point is ≤2% of span for dependable, consistent triggering.
  • Normally closed, normally open, or change-over (SPDT) switching functions support diverse control circuit designs.
  • A stainless steel 316 enclosure with IP66 / NEMA 4X protection resists corrosion and moisture ingress in industrial environments.
  • A compact, slim design with standard spanner widths simplifies socket-wrench installation.
  • Belleville-spring snap-action switching improves stability and vibration resistance versus gradual mechanical actuation.
  • Optional factory pre-setting of the switch point removes on-site adjustment steps for OEM production runs.

Industrial Applications

The WIKA PSM01 is deployed across hydraulics, pneumatics, mobile working machines, and general machine building and plant construction wherever a simple, voltage-free pressure switch is required for compressed air, neutral fluids, or neutral gases. Typical duties include pump and compressor control, pipeline and filter monitoring, hydraulic and pneumatic system pressure switching, and plastics injection moulding machine control circuits.

Working closely with plant engineers in the region, Seven Star LLC distributes the WIKA PSM01 to OEM machine builders, industrial facilities, and mobile equipment manufacturers throughout Oman and the GCC. The pressure switch is a strong fit for hydraulic and pneumatic system integration across the Sohar and Salalah industrial zones, as well as for general machine building and industrial plant construction across Muscat that require dependable, cost-effective mechanical pressure switching.

About brand

WIKA is the German manufacturer of pressure, temperature, level and flow instruments, best known for its pressure gauges. Alexander Wiegand and Philipp Kachel founded it on 2 January 1946 in Klingenberg am Main, Bavaria. The name comes from the first two letters of their surnames. WIKA is still run by the Wiegand family and is headquartered in Klingenberg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list WIKA pressure gauges, diaphragm seals, transmitters, switches, thermometers and thermowells, and supply them to plants, contractors and panel builders in Oman and the GCC by model and order code.

The WIKA model number tells you the build. In 232.50, the first digit 2 means stainless steel wetted parts, the second digit 3 means a liquid-fillable case, and ".50" is the case style. The 111 series uses copper alloy wetted parts and suits water and air. Where the medium is corrosive, very hot or would block the gauge, a diaphragm seal such as the 990.27 keeps it away from the Bourdon tube. For temperature, a thermowell like the TW10 lets you remove the sensor without opening the process.

Where WIKA instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, WIKA gauges, transmitters and thermometers are used in oil and gas, refining and petrochemical plants, power and desalination, water networks, district cooling and HVAC, and on skids and machines from OEMs.

Ordering WIKA instruments: what we need

Send the model, dial size (for example 63, 100 or 160 mm), range and unit, connection size and position (lower or back mount), accuracy class and whether liquid filling is needed. For diaphragm seals and thermowells, add the process connection, materials and insertion length.
