Brand:

Tecfluid TM Series Turbine Flowmeter for Liquids

Description

Overview

The Tecfluid TM series is a range of turbine flowmeters for clean, low-viscosity liquids, available from G1/2 threaded sizes and DN15 up to DN150. Depending on the electronics connected to it, the same meter body acts as a flow rate indicator, a volume totaliser, a transmitter or a batching controller. The Tecfluid TM can be installed in horizontal or vertical pipes with flow in any direction, offers a high flow capacity for its size with low pressure drop, and is available in a high-pressure design and an ATEX Ex d version.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Tecfluid TM to fuel handling contractors, chemical plants, utilities and skid fabricators in Oman and the GCC. As a trusted supplier with engineering support in Muscat, we help customers pick meter size and converter so the turbine operates in its linear range at the real process flow, not only at design maximum.

Measurement Principle

A helical rotor turns freely inside a cylindrical measuring body supported by tungsten carbide shafts and graphite bearings. The liquid drives the rotor blades, and the rotor speed is proportional to the flow rate. A pick-up coil mounted externally senses each blade passage and produces an electrical signal whose frequency, scaled by the K factor in pulses per litre, gives flow rate, totalised volume and digital or analogue outputs. Without an amplifier the coil output rises to several hundred millivolts at full flow.

Because density and viscosity influence a turbine, the meter is calibrated on water and the K factor can be re-programmed in the associated converter for the actual liquid. Higher density and viscosity lower the flow at which the rotor starts turning, while viscosity changes also shift the K factor slightly, an effect shown in the manufacturer curves. To avoid cavitation, outlet pressure should be at least twice the meter pressure drop plus 1.25 times the liquid vapour pressure.

Engineering Design of the Tecfluid TM

The measuring body and deflectors are EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) with tungsten carbide inserts. The rotor is EN 1.4057 (AISI 431) for G1/2 models, EN 1.4460 (AISI 329) from DN15 to DN50 and EN 1.4016 (AISI 430) from DN65 to DN150. Connections are EN 1092-1 or ASME B16.5 flanges from DN15 to DN150, BSP or NPT threads, or sanitary ISO 2852, SMS 1145, DIN 11851 and TRI-CLAMP couplings. Working pressure is PN40 up to DN50 and PN16 from DN65, with fluid temperature from −50°C to +170°C.

Electronics for the Tecfluid TM include the CP420 and CH420 2-wire 4–20 mA indicator-totalisers with HART on the CH420, the battery-powered CIP II totaliser, the panel-mounted MT03F with flow indication, totaliser, two relays for batching or alarms, pulse repeater and 4–20 mA output, and the DFD420 pulse amplifier and frequency divider. Signals can be carried up to 30 m without a converter or up to 3000 m with a compact CP420, CH420 or DFD420.

Key Features

The main reasons to select the Tecfluid TM are:

  • Accuracy is ±0.5% of measured value with ±0.1% repeatability.
  • Flow rates from 30 l/h to 650 m3/h are covered across twelve sizes.
  • A 10 ms response time suits fast batching and filling sequences.
  • Installation is possible in horizontal or vertical pipes and in any flow direction.
  • The 316L body with tungsten carbide and graphite bearings resists wear and corrosion.
  • Electronics range from battery totalisers to HART transmitters and batch controllers.
  • An ATEX Ex d version is offered for hazardous areas, and a high-pressure design is available.
  • Pressure drop at maximum flow ranges from about 240 to 750 mbar depending on size.

Industrial Applications

Tecfluid lists the chemical and petrochemical industry, tank filling and batching, measurement of steam condensate in boilers and fuel consumption on burners as core uses, together with liquefied gas and high-pressure systems. In the Gulf, the Tecfluid TM is well suited to diesel and fuel oil consumption on generators and boilers, chemical injection skids, solvent transfer, demineralised water and batch loading of tankers.

In Oman, likely users include power and desalination plants on the Batinah coast, petrochemical and logistics operators in Sohar and Duqm, and fuel systems at hospitals and hotels in Muscat. Seven Star LLC supports these sites with genuine Tecfluid TM meters and complementary flow instruments such as the Tecfluid Series 2000 variable area flowmeter, the Emerson Micro Motion ELITE CMF Coriolis meter for custody-grade mass duties and the KROHNE H250 M40 variable area flowmeter.

About brand

Tecfluid designs and manufactures flow and level instruments in Spain, where the company has been based since 1974. Its catalog runs from simple variable area flowmeters to electromagnetic flowmeters and bypass level indicators. Seven Star LLC supplies Tecfluid flow meters and level instruments to plants in Oman, and three of them are listed here: the FLOMID electromagnetic flowmeter, the Series 2000 variable area flowmeter and the LT magnetic level transmitter.

Tecfluid series on this page and beyond

FLOMID is the full-bore electromagnetic flowmeter for conductive liquids, listed here from DN3 to DN500. Series 2000 is a small variable area flowmeter for low flow rates of liquids and gases, with one or two optional limit switches. The LT series are bypass chamber level indicators, and the LT-R153 listed here combines level transmission with a switch. Other series include SC250 metal tube and 6000 glass tube flowmeters, FLOMAT and COVOL flow meters, and LU ultrasonic, LTDR guided radar and LD vibrating fork level instruments.

Ordering Tecfluid instruments: what we need

Send the full model code and serial number from the label. For a new FLOMID, state the size, liner and electrode materials, process connection, converter type and supply voltage. For a Series 2000, state the fluid, density, viscosity, pressure, temperature and the scale range. For an LT gauge, give the center-to-center distance, liquid density, connections and any Ex requirement. We supply to the GCC and provide Tecfluid documentation on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What accuracy does the Tecfluid TM turbine flowmeter achieve?
The Tecfluid TM provides an accuracy of plus or minus 0.5% of the measured value with a repeatability of plus or minus 0.1% and a response time of 10 ms, across a 10:1 scale range. Meters are calibrated with water, and the K factor can be re-programmed in the converter for other liquids.
