Faure Herman Heliflu-TZN Helical Turbine Flowmeter

Description

Overview

The Faure Herman Heliflu-TZN is a helical turbine flowmeter built for high accuracy liquid measurement, from very light LPG products to heavy crude oils. The manufacturer calls it the original helical turbine meter, and it is used for custody transfer, pipeline measurement, marine terminals, tanker loading and offloading, LACT units, master metering, FSO and FPSO metering, leak detection and oil production allocation. A plug-and-play design, a simple pulse output and a removable cartridge make it a practical metering solution for oil and gas operators.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Faure Herman Heliflu-TZN Helical Turbine Flowmeter with engineering support in Muscat and regional coordination of configuration, documentation and delivery for Oman and the GCC. We already list the calibrated nozzle for the TZN25-2 as a separate part; this page covers the complete meter, so buyers can quote the flowmeter, spare cartridges and conditioning parts from one request.

Measurement Principle

A turbine meter counts the revolutions of a rotor that turns in proportion to fluid velocity. In the Faure Herman Heliflu-TZN the rotor is helical, so the fluid velocity stays parallel to the blades, which the datasheet says makes the meter less sensitive to variations in viscosity and density. The rounded front edge of the rotor and lightweight rotor materials improve stability and linearity even in high viscosity fluids and reduce bearing wear. Each rotor is optimized for the application in the manufacturer calibration laboratory, using real hydrocarbons rather than water.

An inductive pick-up coil senses the rotor blades and a preamplifier supplies a pulse signal, so the meter works with any flow computer. The meter accepts bi-directional flow, but only upstream flow can be used for custody transfer operation. The datasheet notes superior pulse stability, which reduces the prover volume required, and a patented CUS rotor and bearing design that minimizes the effect of drag reducing agent, wax, fibers, chalk, sand and other impurities on measurement.

Engineering Design of the Faure Herman Heliflu-TZN

The body and flanges are carbon steel or stainless steel, with low temperature carbon steel or duplex as options. The internal cartridge is 316L stainless steel, with titanium optional, the rotor is titanium or aluminium, and bearings are tungsten carbide or graphite. Electrical enclosures are 316 stainless steel or aluminium, with compliance to NORSOK and NACE available. Meter sizes run from 1/2 to 20 inches with ANSI 150 to ANSI 2500 flanges to ASME B16.5, and the meter can be installed horizontally or vertically with upward flow.

The cartridge technology is the central design idea of the Faure Herman Heliflu-TZN. Interchangeable pre-calibrated spare cartridges can generally be replaced in under an hour, and only the cartridge is returned for calibration, so operators keep minimal spares and limit interruption of service. The datasheet recommends a flow conditioner upstream. Hazardous area protection is offered as Explosion Proof or Intrinsically Safe, and one or two electrical enclosures are standard, with three available on request.

Key Features

  • Offers linearity of 0.15 percent for custody transfer and 0.10 percent for premium or master metering applications.
  • Achieves repeatability better than 0.04 percent, and better than 0.02 percent for premium applications.
  • Covers flow rates from 0.12 to 9,300 m³/h (0.75 to 58,500 bbl/h) and viscosities from 0.2 to 350 cSt, with higher viscosities on request.
  • Provides a low pressure drop compared with positive displacement, Coriolis and conventional turbine meters, reducing pumping energy.
  • Supports downsizing and flexible flowrate cartridges to follow changes in production through the life of a field.
  • Allows customer-serviceable cartridge replacement, generally in under an hour, with calibration of the cartridge alone.
  • Delivers a simple pulse output with 2-wire, 2-wire NAMUR or 3-wire open collector preamplifier options.
  • Is easy to prove, which makes it a suitable master meter for prover and calibration work.

Industrial Applications

The Faure Herman Heliflu-TZN measures crude oil, condensate, refined products and LPG on loading terminals, export pipelines, offshore floating units and production allocation skids. In Oman it fits the crude export and storage infrastructure around Muscat, the product terminals and refineries of Sohar, and the port and storage facilities of Salalah and Duqm, where a custody transfer meter must remain accurate across changing viscosity and temperature without frequent shutdowns.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Faure Herman Heliflu-TZN to metering contractors, terminal operators and EPC companies across Oman and the wider GCC. Related items include the Faure Herman TZN calibrated nozzle 301227, the OMNI 3000/6000 series flow computer and the FloBoss S600+ flow computer, which can accept the pulse output for custody transfer calculations.

About brand
Helical-rotor turbine meters for liquid hydrocarbons are what most metering engineers associate with Faure Herman. The French manufacturer builds its meters around two technologies, helical turbine and ultrasonic, mainly for liquid hydrocarbons in oil and gas and for aerospace fuel systems. Seven Star LLC supplies Faure Herman flowmeters and their parts to metering teams in Oman, and this page currently lists the Heliflu-TZN helical turbine flowmeter and a calibrated nozzle for the TZN25-2.

Faure Herman flowmeter families

The Heliflu-TZN is the core Faure Herman turbine meter. Its helical rotor sits in a removable measuring cartridge, and the cartridge is factory calibrated independently of the meter body, so cartridges can be rotated between meters. The manufacturer presents the TZN for liquids from light LPG to heavy crude oil and as a good fit for master meter duty. Alongside it, the company builds ultrasonic flowmeters such as the FH8400.

Ordering Faure Herman meters and parts: what we need

A Faure Herman turbine meter is built to order, so the serial number is the key. For a replacement meter, cartridge or nozzle, send a nameplate photo showing model, size and serial number, plus the part number if you have it (for example 301227). For a new meter, add the liquid, viscosity range, flow range, pressure, temperature, flange rating and the pickup or preamplifier arrangement. We work with projects across the GCC and check each code against the manufacturer's documentation.
