Overview
The Tecfluid SC250 is a robust, all-metal variable area flowmeter for liquids, gases and steam. Unlike glass-tube rotameters, it is built for demanding pressure and temperature conditions and offers good corrosion resistance, while still giving a direct local reading through magnetic transmission. The Tecfluid SC250 range spans DN15 to DN150 and includes versions for upward, downward and horizontal flow and for high-viscosity liquids, with a float damping mechanism that keeps readings stable on gas and steam.

Working Principle
In the SC250 the metering system is a calibrated orifice with a conical float. Flow pushes the float upward until the fluid force balances the float weight; each float position corresponds to a specific annular area between float and orifice and therefore to a specific flow rate. A magnet in the float assembly drives the pointer of the external indicator, so the reading is taken through the metal wall with no seals between process and indicator.
The SC250H and SC250V include a spring, so the float compresses the spring until equilibrium is reached, which allows horizontal and downward installation. The SM250, intended for viscosities above about 10 mPa·s, uses a conical tube with a special T or V float and no calibrated orifice. For gas and steam, a ceramic, PEEK or metallic piston damping system from DN15 to DN80 prevents float bounce even at low pressures and gas densities.
Engineering Design of the Tecfluid SC250
Standard wetted parts are EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L), with PTFE-lined, PVC and PP versions and titanium or Hastelloy C on request. In 316L the Tecfluid SC250 handles fluid temperatures from −50°C to +300°C depending on model, and a thermal separator extends this for hot or cryogenic service. Pressure ratings are PN40 for DN15 to DN50 and PN16 for DN65 to DN150 in stainless steel. Connections include EN 1092-1 or ASME B16.5 flanges, BSP or NPT threads, and sanitary ISO 2852, SMS 1145, DIN 11851 and TRI-CLAMP couplings.
The indicator housing is IP65 coated aluminium with a polycarbonate window as standard, IP67 316L with glass window for marine and sanitary duty, or PP. An Ex d explosion-proof aluminium housing is ATEX and IECEx certified to Ex d IIC T6…T4 Gb with IP66/IP67. Electrical options are AMM micro-switches, AMD inductive detectors, TH7 and TH7H 2-wire 4–20 mA transmitters with HART, TH7T totaliser transmitters, and the MT03A converter with optional MODBUS RTU RS485.

A metal tube removes the breakage risk of glass and lets the Tecfluid SC250 run at higher pressure and temperature, up to PN40 for DN15 to DN50 and up to 300 degrees C in 316L depending on configuration. The magnetic indicator still gives a local reading without any power supply.
