Brooks Instrument Sho-Rate 1350G and 1355G Rotameter

Description

Configurable low-flow rotameters with purge-service heritage

The Sho-Rate 1350G and 1355G are glass tube variable area flowmeters (rotameters) for low flows of gas and liquid. Brooks says the Sho-Rate family has been the industry standard for decades and is particularly suited to purge applications. The base configuration is a borosilicate glass tube in an aluminium frame with 316 stainless steel end blocks, adaptors and valve, and further material, valve and flow-controller options let the meter be matched to the process.

The 1350G is the 5 percent accuracy model and the 1355G the 3 percent model, both at reference conditions of air or water at 14.7 psia and 70 F. The heavy-wall precision-bore tube resists thermal shock and corrosive gases, a clear polycarbonate face shield with built-in magnifier helps reading, and interchangeable tubes and floats with integral float stops allow in-situ maintenance without losing the float.

Picking tube, float and fittings

Capacity tables list each tube number against the float material. For the 1350G, rib-guide tubes with spherical floats in sizes 2 and 6 cover the lower flows, for example tube R-2-65-A with a glass float for 0.010 GPH of water, up to R-6-65-B with a tantalum float for about 30 GPH. The 1355G uses tubes such as R-2-15-AAAA for the lowest flows and R-6-15-B for the highest. Standard scales are direct reading on the tube, plus millimetre scales supported by flow data for all fluids and conditions.

The model code includes tube packing and O-ring material pairs (for example Viton with Viton, or Teflon with Buna), the end-fitting material and connection, and a valve type from a plain valve plug through numbered NRS stainless steel valves.

What to confirm before ordering

Send the fluid, flow range and unit, pressure and temperature, connection and thread type, valve and controller preference, alarm needs and any certificate you require such as ICC or CRN. The datasheet title and the product name differ slightly, so for a replacement please give the complete code from the existing nameplate. Glass tube meters are not suited to fluids that attack borosilicate glass, and the rated pressure and temperature must not be exceeded.

About brand

Brooks Instrument makes mass flow controllers, flowmeters and pressure and vacuum instruments for gases and liquids. The industrial chemist Stephen A. Brooks started the business in 1946 as the Brooks Rotameter Company near Philadelphia, building variable area flowmeters. After many years as part of Emerson, Brooks was sold to American Industrial Partners at the end of 2007 and has been a division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW) since January 2012. It is headquartered in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Brooks Instrument thermal and Coriolis mass flow controllers and variable area flowmeters for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Instruments are matched from the model code and the gas, range and calibration data on the label.

Where Brooks instruments are used

Brooks mass flow controllers dose gases in analyser systems, catalyst and pilot plant testing, gas blending, burner and combustion control, fuel cell test stands and semiconductor tools. Variable area flowmeters are widely used on purge gas, seal flush, sample and chemical injection lines in oil and gas, refining and petrochemical plants, where a simple local indication without external power is preferred.

Ordering Brooks instruments: what we need

Send the full model code and serial number from the label. Mass flow controllers are calibrated for a specific gas and full-scale flow, so state the gas or gas mixture, flow range, inlet and outlet pressure, temperature, process connection, seal material, signal (analog, RS-485, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP or other) and any hazardous-area requirement. For variable area meters add the fluid, density, viscosity, flow range, connection size, materials and whether alarms or a 4-20 mA output are needed.
