Blue-White F-440 Polysulfone Variable Area Flow Meter

Description

F-440 is a polysulfone-body variable area flow meter (rotameter) from Blue-White for water and compatible liquids from 0.025 to 10 gallons per minute (0.1 to 37.5 litres per minute). Polysulfone gives it a 175 psi pressure rating and a fluid temperature up to 212 F (100 C), well above the acrylic meters of the same family, for indoor in-line or panel installations.

A hot-water capable rotameter in a polysulfone body

In a variable area meter the fluid lifts a float inside a tapered tube, and the flow is read against a printed scale at the float. The F-440 has a dual GPM/LPM scale, a 316 stainless-steel guide rod and a float in PVDF (lowest range) or 316 stainless steel (other ranges). Full-scale accuracy is plus or minus 4 percent, calibrated on water with a specific gravity of 1.0.

The meter is made in five ranges and three layouts: in-line, elbow panel mount (suffix E) and adjustable panel mount (suffix A). Unionised threaded adapters from 1/4 to 3/4 in male NPT make removal for cleaning simple. The datasheet states the meter is for indoor use only and must not be exposed to direct sunlight.

Key features as printed in the datasheet

Selection and ordering guide

The part number is F-44 [scale] L [installation] – [adapter] [O-ring], for example F-44250L-6. Scale code 250, 375, 376, 500 or 750 selects the range. Letter L is the 316 stainless-steel guide rod. Leave the installation blank for in-line, E for elbow panel mount and A for the adjustable panel model (for the 750). The adapter digits are 6 (3/8 in male NPT), 8 (1/2 in male NPT) and 12 (3/4 in male NPT) with polysulfone adapter and union; add -E for EP O-rings.

Choose the range so that normal flow sits in the middle of the scale. In-house NIST calibration, OEM packaging and silicone-oil-free options are mentioned on the datasheet as available.

Installation and operation notes

The manual requires upward flow and vertical installation only, in a clean, uniform and well-supported pipe that stays perfectly vertical. Fit unionised fittings before and after the meter so it can be removed for service, and review system flow and pressure against the meter ratings before installation.

The meter is calibrated for clean water only; the manual warns that, although other chemicals may be suitable, Blue-White cannot guarantee readings for them. Do not install it in direct sunlight.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Typical uses are cooling-water and process-water flow checks, chemical-feed rate verification at dosing skids, flush-water indicators on RO systems, and laboratory or pilot rigs. The 100 C fluid rating makes the F-440 suitable for warm return lines where acrylic meters would be limited, provided pressure is derated as the temperature-versus-pressure graph in the manual shows.

In hot climates the housing must stay out of the sun and the 175 psi rating applies at 70 F, so check the derating graph for hot fluid.

Compatible accessories and related items

The same family includes the F-450 to F-462 polysulfone meters, and the acrylic F-400 to F-430 and F-550 series; for dosing, see the FLEXFLO and CHEM-FEED pumps and the MS6 ultrasonic chemical-feed flow meter listed on this site. Blue-White also lists accessory pages for tubing, foot valves and injection fittings.

About brand

Blue-White Industries is an American maker of metering pumps, flowmeters and water treatment accessories, based in Huntington Beach, California. It was founded in 1957 by Ozzie King, a pool builder and inventor who switched King Blue-White Pools from building pools to manufacturing; his F-300 series flowmeters became a pool industry standard. Today Blue-White makes peristaltic and diaphragm metering pumps for municipal and industrial water treatment.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Blue-White pumps and flow meters, with the official technical data sheet attached to each product page, for water treatment and process projects in Oman and the GCC.
