Ridgegear RGAN1 Temporary Adjustable Anchor Strap 5m or 10m

Description

RGAN1 is a Ridgegear temporary adjustable anchor strap for a single user, certified to EN 795:2012 Type B, supplied in 5 m or 10 m lengths with 26 mm polyester webbing, a ratchet and an RGK1 steel screwgate karabiner. It is wrapped around a suitable structure to create a portable anchor point.

A ratchet-tensioned anchor you can carry to the structure

The strap is adjusted to the structure and tightened with a ratchet, so it stays secure on items such as chimneys and skylight frames, as Ridgegear lists. The product features are a hook-and-loop webbing tidy, ratchet, one user, a sharp-edge radius greater than 0.5 mm and a static resistance greater than 18 kN. Maximum arrest force is below 6 kN (horizontal).

The leaflet explains that the maximum load that could be transmitted from the anchor device to the structure in service is 10 kN, and that the maximum deflection and displacement during use is below 5 percent of the strap length.

Selection and ordering guide

Use the RGAN1 when there is no fixed anchor on a roof, stack or frame and a structure of at least 18 kN is available to wrap. Choose 5 m or 10 m according to the circumference to be encircled. For beams where the anchor must move along a flange, see the RGA22 sliding beam anchor on this site.

The strap is a personal-issue style device for a single user; when it is part of a fall arrest system the user must have equipment limiting peak force to 6 kN.

Installation and operation notes

Install in six steps from the leaflet: unravel the webbing and pass it around a suitable structure; pass the end loop through the O-ring where the safety line will attach; insert an EN 362 connector through the end loop with the keeper locked and on one side; pull the webbing tail through the ratchet slot and tighten with at least 1.5 turns; close the ratchet fully; then check it regularly.

Keep the anchor as high as possible above the user, never work above it, and minimise slack in the lanyard. Wet or icy conditions within the temperature range do not affect performance, though a frozen strap is less flexible.

Inspection before each use should cover the webbing for cuts, abrasion, burns and chemical attack, the stitching, the ratchet and the metal fittings. Marking on the strap records the product code, EN standard and type, length, notified body number, contact details, unique traceability number, date of manufacture and number of users. The leaflet allows tagging the strap with the date of the next or last inspection but forbids writing on the strap.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Maintenance on roofs, chimneys, skylights and structures where no certified anchor exists. In the GCC, protect the strap from sparks, hot surfaces and UV, which the leaflet lists among the things that shorten its life.

Clean it with mild detergent and rinse in clean warm water.

The strap must be withdrawn if it has been used to arrest a fall, until a competent person confirms it is acceptable in writing. Avoid impact, sharp edges, strong acids or alkalis, solvents, excessive heat or sparks and prolonged UV exposure.
