Robust compact hanging scale in stainless steel with IP65 protection

The KERN HCN 100K200IP is a hand-held hanging scale (tension scale) with a capacity of 100 kg and a readability of 0.2 kg. The housing, load hook and load cell are all stainless steel, and the complete device is protected against dust and water splashes to IP65. It measures only 96 x 48 x 179 mm and weighs about 0.5 kg, so it can be carried in a toolbag or hung from a hook at a receiving point.

KERN names the food industry, commercial fishing, construction and building sites, warehouse logistics and agriculture and forestry as the principal uses, and says it is ideal for rapid control in goods-in and goods-out. A snap link in stainless steel with a safety catch and a stainless steel hook are standard. A second display on the back of the scale lets the user read the result from either side. Like the HFC crane scale, the HCN carries the TÜV certification mark and meets EN 13155 and EN 61010-1 according to the brochure.

The HCN series has three models with the same housing: HCN 50K100IP (50 kg, 0.1 kg), HCN 100K200IP (100 kg, 0.2 kg) and HCN 200K500IP (200 kg, 0.5 kg), each about 0.50 kg. Choose the model whose capacity is closest above the heaviest item. KERN lists a 50 kg M3 test weight 366-79 and a snap link HCB-A01.

Installation and operation notes

Hang the scale from a fixed, rated point, attach the load to the hook and wait for the 2 s stabilization before reading. Let the unit warm up for 10 min when accuracy matters and check with the 50 kg M3 reference. Keep within 5 to 35 degrees C. The scale measures only along its axis, so avoid swinging or side loading. Without a backlight the display needs adequate light. Inspect the stainless steel snap link and hook for wear before each shift, replace the snap link with the listed HCB-A01 if damaged, and never exceed the 100 kg capacity.

Applications in field and receiving use

Typical GCC uses include checking fish and food crates in cold stores, weighing hand-lifted equipment on rigging crews, spot-checking cable and hose coils, and goods-in controls at site stores. The stainless steel body tolerates splashes in washdown and marine environments. The small size and 0.50 kg weight make it a convenient companion for inspectors who carry equipment between plants, and because a second display is on the back of the scale, the reading can be taken from either side of the load.

Use and calibration notes

Hanging scales of this type are used in the region in receiving areas, workshops, fisheries, farms and field work, wherever sacks, bags, parts and samples must be weighed quickly without a bench scale. The stainless steel housing and IP65 protection suit dusty, humid and wet conditions, including coastal sites. Always hang the load freely from the hook, avoid swinging and shock loads, and never exceed the stated capacity.

Check the scale regularly with a known test weight, and arrange calibration where readings are used for trade or quality records. Replace the batteries as described in the manual, and inspect the hook and housing for damage during routine checks.

Keep a simple record of test-weight checks, so any drift can be seen early and calibration arranged in good time. Store the scale clean and dry after use in wet or dusty conditions.
