Brand:

Garlock BLUE-GARD Style 3200 Aramid SBR Gasket Sheet

Description

SBR-bonded aramid sheet for water, steam and inert gas joints

BLUE-GARD Style 3200 is an off-white compressed-fibre sheet of aramid fibres with an SBR binder. Garlock lists water, saturated steam and inert gases as the fluid services, and highlights excellent sealability, improved torque retention and drastically lowered emissions levels across the Blue-Gard line.

It carries ABS approval and meets MIL-DTL-24696 Type II, with certification required to receive product branded to that military specification. The Garlock catalogue example is a 0.063 in sheet 60 in wide and 180 in long, which suits cutting gaskets for a plant maintenance stock.

Steam use and assembly stress for Style 3200

The datasheet carries an unusually specific steam note. The style is not a preferred choice for steam service but is successful when adequately compressed: the minimum recommended assembly stress is 4,800 psi, the preferred range is 6,000 to 10,000 psi, a 1/16 in gasket is strongly preferred and the bolts should be re-torqued before pressurising. For saturated steam above 150 psig, or for superheated steam, Garlock asks you to consult its engineers.

Mechanical data are compressibility 10 %, recovery 50 %, creep relaxation 18 % and tensile strength 2250 psi (15 N/mm2). Design factors are m 3.5 and y 2100 psi (14.5 N/mm2) up to 1/16 in, and m 6.6 and y 3000 psi (20.7 N/mm2) at 1/8 in, so thin sheet is the better choice for lower bolt loads.

Documents, ordering details and quotation

Please state the steam pressure, if any, because Garlock sets conditions on this style above 150 psig. To price the job we need the medium, pressure, temperature, flange details, available bolt load, thickness and quantity, and whether sheet or finished gaskets are wanted. The datasheet figures are typical test values, so have the final selection reviewed against the real operating conditions, and ask Garlock for a chemical compatibility opinion where the medium is unusual. About brand

Garlock is an American manufacturer of sealing products, founded in 1887 in Palmyra, New York, after Olin J. Garlock developed a packing to seal piston rods on steam engines. It is now part of Enpro Industries, listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Garlock gaskets, packings and oil seals are used in chemical plants, refineries, power stations and pulp and paper mills.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Garlock gasket sheet materials for refineries, chemical plants, utilities and gasket cutters in Oman and the GCC.

Garlock product series

GYLON restructured PTFE gasket sheets include Style 3504 blue with aluminosilicate filler, Style 3510 off-white with barium sulfate, Style 3500 fawn with silica, Style 3545 microcellular PTFE for low bolt loads, Style 3530 graphite-filled and Style 3565 ENVELON sandwich sheet. The GYLON EPIX Style 3504 EPX has a hex-profile surface for better sealing at lower loads.

BLUE-GARD compressed sheets include Style 3000 with aramid fibres and NBR binder and Style 3200 with SBR binder, for water, steam and general service.

Choosing a GYLON style depends on the medium and the flange: blue 3504 for moderate concentrations of acids and some caustics, off-white 3510 for strong caustics, fawn 3500 for strong acids, and microcellular 3545 for glass-lined, plastic or worn flanges that cannot take high bolt loads. Compressed BLUE-GARD sheets are economical for water, steam, oils and mild chemicals within their pressure and temperature limits.

Where Garlock gaskets are used

Flanged joints in chemical, acid and caustic service, steam, water, hydrocarbons and gases, and glass-lined or fragile flanges where low bolt loads are needed.
