Bray Series 19/19L Segmented Ball Control Valve, NPS 1 to 16
Description
Control valve for slurries, fibres and viscous media
The Bray Series 19 and Series 19L are segmented ball valves for modulating control and on-off service in gas, liquid and slurry applications. Bray describes them as combining the preferred traits of a knife gate valve, a globe valve and a ball valve: the sharp leading edge of the segment cuts through viscous media, the trailing edge offers a customizable V-profile for precise control, and a split-stem design gives an uninterrupted flow path comparable to a ball valve.
The Series 19 is the standard service version, suited to slurries with suspended solids or fibres, viscous fluids, pulp, paper, chemicals and wastewater sludge. The Series 19L is the severe-service version for heavy erosion, with erosion-resistant downstream liners and seats, ultra-hard coating options, bearing seals and a pressure-balanced seat design. Rangeability is 300:1 with three standard port options (standard, 60 degree and 30 degree), and custom characterization is available.

Standard and severe-service construction
The one-piece body gives a rigid shell for pipe loading and eliminates leak paths. A splined stem-to-segment connection gives efficient torque transmission with low hysteresis and reduced deadband, the self-centering segment is oriented by a specially designed shaft pin, and the seat spring keeps constant force on the seat at low differential pressure while optimized sealing diameters lower seat torque at higher pressure. The seat can be replaced without removing the segment and shaft.
The interchangeable seat design lets users choose a resilient seat for general-purpose, moderate-temperature, light-solids service or a metal seat for industrial processes with moderate solids. The 19L adds a flanged retainer for external access to the seat and liner, and customizable severe-service coatings for erosion and corrosion.
When to specify a segmented ball valve
Use it where a globe valve would clog or erode, where an on-off ball valve gives poor control, or where the medium is fibrous or contains solids: pulp and paper stock, sugar and ethanol, mining slurries, wastewater sludge and refinery services. It can be automated with Bray positioners such as the Series 6A or 6P and with Bray pneumatic or electric actuators. Please provide the Cv or flow range, differential pressure, medium and solids content, temperature, leakage class and actuator signal.

About brand
Bray International is the Houston-based maker of butterfly valves, knife gate and slurry valves, actuators and valve controls. It was incorporated in Houston on 23 April 1986, founded by Craig C. Brown and Frank J. Raymond, and assembled its first butterfly valves in 1987. Among them were the Series 20/21, 30/31 and 35/36 resilient-seated valves that are still in its range.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Bray valves, actuators, positioners and switch boxes, and supply complete automated valve packages and spare parts to water, oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC.

The butterfly valve type follows the duty. Resilient-seated valves seal on a rubber liner, which makes them economical and bubble-tight for water and utilities. High-performance valves use an offset disc and a PTFE or metal seat for higher pressures and temperatures. Triple-offset valves add a third geometric offset so the disc meets the seat without rubbing, which allows a metal-to-metal, zero-leakage seal in steam and hydrocarbon service.
Where Bray valves are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bray valves and actuators are used in water transmission and distribution, desalination and wastewater plants, district cooling and HVAC, petrochemical and chemical plants, power stations and mining and slurry lines.
Ordering Bray valves: what we need
