Blue-White CD3 CHEM-FEED Multi-Diaphragm Metering Pump

CD3 is a CHEM-FEED multi-diaphragm metering pump with a 1/4 hp brushless DC motor and a 5 inch colour touchscreen, delivering 0.20 to 199 litres per hour at up to 10 bar. The datasheet describes smooth, nearly pulse-free dosing that needs no pulsation dampener, and the order code on the sheet is CD3S.

Multi-diaphragm design for smooth dosing and no vapour lock

A conventional diaphragm pump produces a pulse on each stroke and can vapour-lock on off-gassing liquids such as sodium hypochlorite. The CD3 uses several diaphragms working together so the flow is smoother and, according to the sheet, vapour locking is eliminated. Its Diaphragm Failure Detection (DFD) system senses a ruptured diaphragm.

The pump runs at up to 380 strokes per minute (190 rpm), with a 1,000:1 speed range in 0.001 percent steps below 1 percent speed. Inputs include 4-20 mA, pulse and industrial protocols plus remote start/stop and auto-prime; outputs include 4-20 mA and four alarms. The flow chart in the datasheet gives 52.6 GPH at 0 psi and 100 percent speed, 34.6 GPH at 140 psi.

Selection and ordering guide

The order code is CD3S [stroke rate 2] [voltage] [stroke 4] [electrical X] [elastomer] [fittings] [balls], for example CD3S244XVX. Code 2 means 380 SPM; the voltage digit selects NEMA 5/15 (4), NEMA 6/15 (5), CEE 7/VII (6), AS 3112 (8), BS 1363 (9) or no cord (X); stroke 4 is a 0.090 in stroke with a large diaphragm. Elastomer V gives DiaFlex diaphragms with TFE/P O-rings for most chemicals but not for sodium hydroxide or aqueous ammonia; E gives Flex-A-Prene diaphragms with EPDM for those chemicals.

Fitting codes X and M are 1/2 in male NPT elbow or straight fittings with a 1/2 in NPT foot valve; B and C are 1/2 in barb straight or elbow. Suffix H selects PTFE balls (double ball check valves) for low-viscosity, low-density fluids only.

Installation and operation notes

The manual describes stainless-steel extended brackets that lift the pump 4.5 in (11.43 cm), with hole spacings given for mounting. Mount near the injection point, keep lines short, add a pressure relief valve and a back-flow check valve on the discharge, and note that the pump does not need back pressure although some may be wanted for consistent flow where discharge pressure varies.

The manual lists prime at 100 percent speed for 60 seconds, plus an auto-prime that is triggered by a dry contact with configurable duration and speed. Flush thoroughly before storage because some chemicals can expand and damage the diaphragms.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

A pulse-free feed is useful for hypochlorite at municipal and desalination post-treatment, fluoride, coagulants and polymer, where pulsation would upset analysers or mixing. The CD3 is also used on sampling and dosing skids where a 4-20 mA signal paces the pump.

Remember the 46 C ambient limit in hot Gulf plant rooms and consult the manufacturer for chemical compatibility, as the sheet notes under the diaphragm material.

Selection and installation notes

A dosing or metering pump is selected from the flow range, the back pressure, the chemical and the control signal. Check that the liquid end and the seals are compatible with the chemical, fit an injection valve and a pressure relief valve on the discharge, prime the pump and calibrate the flow with a measuring cylinder at the working pressure, wear the protective equipment the chemical safety sheet requires and keep spare diaphragms and valves.
