Brand:

Barksdale 96201 Series Compact Pressure Switch

Description

A compact SPDT pressure switch for hydraulics, compressors and engines

The Barksdale 96201 series is a small piston or diaphragm pressure switch with a single-pole double-throw snap-action microswitch. The datasheet covers three related series: 96221 for vacuum, 96211 for low pressures up to 500 psi and 96201 for high pressures up to 7500 psi, so one housing style spans vacuum monitoring through high-pressure hydraulic circuits. Switches are factory preset and locked or field adjustable through an external adjustment sleeve, and the plastic enclosure is NEMA 1 as standard, or NEMA 4 with the conduit connector options and IP65 with the DIN connector.

Barksdale lists pump and compressor monitoring, air proving in HVAC systems, engine monitoring, machine tools, hydraulic power units, mobile hydraulics, medical equipment, irrigation systems and general industrial applications.

Selecting the base model and setpoint range

The base model sets the adjustable range, so choose the range that places the required trip point in the middle third of the window rather than at an end. Check proof pressure against the highest transient. Ranges as printed on the datasheet:

Model Decreasing setpoint (psi / bar) Increasing setpoint (psi / bar) Approx. deadband Proof pressure
96221-BB1 1 to 28 in. Hg 6 to 30 in. Hg 0.5 to 8 in. Hg see datasheet

96201-BB4 3650 to 6700 (248 to 456) 4000 to 7500 (272 to 510) 200 to 1000 psi (13.79 to 68.96 bar) 12000 psi (816 bar)

Increasing is the actuation value on rising pressure and decreasing is the reset value on falling pressure; the difference is the deadband.

Ordering code, options and what to confirm

The datasheet example code is 96211-BB3 SS -T5 -V. The base model is followed by the contact and fitting codes, and options are added as suffixes: -T2 for a DIN 43650A connector, -T4 for a 1/2 inch NPT male conduit connector with free leads, -T5 for a 1/2 inch NPT female conduit connector with free leads, -V for Viton diaphragm and O-rings in place of the Buna-N standard, -Z1 cleaned for oxygen service, -Z12 gold contact limit switch rated 1 A at 125 VAC, -P1 for a 7/16-20 SAE fitting with O-ring and -S for a factory preset. Prefix L gives a factory-set permanently locked switch and prefix T adds a tamper-resistant set screw. Some options are not available on every base model: the datasheet notes restrictions on 96221-BB1 and 96201-BB4, and the Viton option is not available with the DIN connector.

Before ordering, give us the exact code with prefix, base model and suffixes, the media, the working and peak pressure, the required trip and reset points and the electrical load. Standard wetted parts are a brass 1/4 inch NPT male process fitting, Buna-N seals and a stainless steel piston on 96201 models with a Teflon back-up ring; media that attack brass or Buna-N need an alternative material, and the switch rating is 5 A at 125 or 250 VAC, or 5 A at 30 VDC on the DC-rated microswitches. Operating temperature is -40 to 165 F on 96201, -20 to 165 F on 96211 and 0 to 165 F on 96221 (listed as -40 to 74, -29 to 74 and -18 to 74 C).

About brand

Barksdale is a Los Angeles manufacturer of pressure, level, temperature and flow switches and transmitters that has built control products for hydraulic, pneumatic and process equipment since 1949. It is a subsidiary of Crane Co. and also sells air suspension valves and, through its Dynalco brand, speed instruments. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, supplies Barksdale instruments to Oman and GCC buyers on inquiry.

Pressure, level and temperature switches

The Barksdale range covers compact and diaphragm pressure switches, electronic switches with optional IO-Link, float and electronic level switches, tank level transmitters, temperature switches and pressure transducers. Typical uses are hydraulic power units, compressors, lube and fuel skids, engines, cooling circuits and tanks.
