Schneider Electric LUB12 TeSys Ultra Power Base 12 A
Description
LUB12 power base of a TeSys Ultra motor starter
The LUB12 is a Schneider Electric product listed in the datasheet as: Power base, TeSys Ultra, 12 A, screw clamps control. The LUB12 is the power part of a TeSys Ultra starter: it contains the contacts, the isolation function and the circuit-breaker-like short-circuit protection for a 12 A motor. A control unit (such as an LUCA or LUCM model) plugs into the front and decides how the motor is protected and controlled. Seven Star LLC supplies the LUB12 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier based in Muscat.
Reading the reference: LU marks TeSys Ultra, B the power base, and 12 the maximum motor current in amperes. The datasheet describes it as a non-reversing three-pole base with isolation capability.

How the TeSys Ultra power base and control unit work together
Suitable for isolation: Yes. Rated operational current: 12 A <= 440 V; 12 A 500 V; 9 A 690 V. Utilisation categories: AC-43; AC-44; AC-41. Service breaking capacity: 50 kA 230 V. Control voltage: 24 V AC 50/60 Hz; 24 V DC; 48 to 72 V AC 50/60 Hz; 48 to 72 V DC; 110 to 240 V AC 50/60 Hz; 110 to 220 V DC. Auxiliary contacts: 1 NO + 1 NC.
A TeSys Ultra starter is two parts: the power base switches and protects the motor circuit, and the control unit holds the protection settings and the communication. The same base can take different control units, from simple standard types to multifunction units with diagnostics, which is why the base alone does not set thermal protection behaviour.
Where the LUB12 fits and what it combines with
The base accepts standard control units (LUCA, LUCB and LUCC types), advanced ones (LUCM), and communication modules; the specific list of compatible control units is on the datasheet. A base of this size is for motors up to 12 A, which at 400 V is roughly 5.5 kW.
Because the starter combines breaker and contactor functions in a compact housing, it is an alternative to a separate motor circuit breaker, contactor and overload set when panel space is tight.
Selection checklist for the LUB12
- Motor full-load current below 12 A.
- Which control unit is plugged in; the base does not set overload class.
- Control voltage for the coil: see the table above.
- Need for add-on modules for communications or a reversing function.
- Short-circuit rating at the supply voltage from the datasheet.
- Spare control units on site: they are field-replaceable.
Installing and servicing the LUB12
Mount on 35 mm rail or plate, fit the control unit by plugging it into the front, and connect motor and supply to the power terminals. The control unit locks into the base, and the power base can be isolated with the front lever.
Check tightness after the first week of operation, as thermal cycling can loosen screw terminals, and verify that the control unit matches the motor current before the first start.
Typical applications of the LUB12 in Oman and the GCC
Typical use is as a compact starter for a motor on small pumps, fans, conveyors and process units in the region. Because of the narrow body, they are popular in compact MCCs and skid-mounted panels.
Dimensions, environment and approvals of the LUB12
For the LUB12, plan the mounting space from the datasheet: 45 mm (W) x 154 mm (H) x 126 mm (D). The LUB12 weighs 0.9 kg. Mounting, derating and enclosure choices follow the environmental data below, which should be compared with the actual panel temperature and the dust and humidity of the site in Oman and the GCC.
Ambient temperature limits in the datasheet: -25 to 60 °C with LUCM. Ingress protection: IP20 IEC 60947-1 front panel and wired terminals; IP20 IEC 60947-1 other faces; IP40 IEC 60947-1 front panel outside connection zone. Operating altitude: 2000 m. Vibration resistance: 2 gn 5 to 300 Hz power poles open IEC 60068-2-27; 4 gn 5 to 300 Hz power poles closed IEC 60068-2-27. Shock resistance: 10 gn power poles open IEC 60068-2-27; 15 gn power poles closed IEC 60068-2-27. Standards listed: EN 60947-6-2; IEC 60947-6-2; UL 60947-4-1, with phase barrier; CSA C22.2 No 60947-4-1, with phase barrier. Certifications listed for this reference: CE; UL; CSA; CCC; EAC; ASEFA; ATEX; Marine.

About brand
Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

- 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
- 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
- 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
- 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.
Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control
Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.
Where Schneider Electric products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.
APC by Schneider Electric: UPS and critical power
Since 2007, APC has been part of Schneider Electric and is now its product brand for uninterruptible power supplies, replacement batteries, battery packs, network management cards and rack power distribution. Our APC catalogue covers Smart-UPS line-interactive and on-line models, Easy UPS On-Line, the modular Symmetra LX, RM and PX ranges, Silcon three-phase systems and their spare part kits, and the RBC cartridges that keep them running. Schneider Electric breakers, drives and PLCs can be quoted together with APC UPS systems in one request.
