Pepperl+Fuchs S1SD-1AI-1U Slim Transmitter Power Supply

Description

S1SD-1AI-1U 6.2 mm transmitter power supply with voltage output

The S1SD-1AI-1U is an ultra-slim one-channel transmitter power supply from the Pepperl+Fuchs S-System. At 6.2 mm width it supplies 2-wire or 3-wire transmitters, accepts 2-wire current sources and gives a galvanically isolated 0/4 to 20 mA or 0/2 to 10 V output. It is for safe-area use and for Zone 2 / Div. 2 installation.

In the code, S1SD marks the S-System single-channel slim housing, 1AI one analog input and 1U the version with current and voltage output. Its sibling S1SD-1AI-1C.H adds HART transparency, and S1SD-1TI-1U is the temperature converter in the same housing.

Seven Star LLC supplies this module in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

How the S1SD-1AI-1U supplies and isolates a transmitter

The module provides about 16 V at 20 mA to a 2-wire loop-powered transmitter, or supplies a 3-wire transmitter, and passes the measurement through an isolation barrier to the control side. DIP switches select 0 or 4 mA zero and current or voltage output, so one hardware type covers many control inputs.

It can be powered from terminals or from the Power Bus of the S-System, which removes the need for individual supply wiring in a dense row of modules.

System fit and related parts

Choose the S1SD-1AI-1U where space is the main constraint and a 4 to 20 mA signal is converted to current or voltage. If HART data must pass transparently, take the S1SD-1AI-1C.H. If the transmitter sits in a hazardous area and needs intrinsic safety, use K-System barriers such as the KFD2-STC5-1 or KCD2-STC-Ex1, because this module carries no Ex ia input rating in the data reviewed.

Selection and ordering checklist for the S1SD-1AI-1U

  • Transmitter type: 2-wire, 3-wire or current source.
  • Output type: 0/4 to 20 mA or 0/2 to 10 V.
  • Loop load within 600 Ω or 2 kΩ limits.
  • Power Bus or terminal supply.
  • Ambient up to 70 °C in the cabinet.
  • Zone 2 or safe-area installation.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the S1SD-1AI-1U

Fit the module on the rail, wire the transmitter to terminals 5, 6 and 7 according to its type, set the DIP switches, and verify with a loop calibrator at 4 and 20 mA. Keep the narrow modules in labeled groups because identical housings are easy to mix up in a dense row.

The datasheet gives an MTBF of 445 years under 40 °C operating conditions, so maintenance is limited to periodic loop checks and terminal inspection.

Label each module with the tag of its loop on the front label space, and keep a spare of each output variant on the shelf, because the slim housing makes it easy to confuse current and voltage output modules when they look identical from the front.

Thin-module practice for the S1SD-1AI-1U

At 6.2 mm width, the S1SD-1AI-1U allows high channel density, but heat from neighbouring modules adds up. Review the power dissipation of the whole row (0.9 W for this module) and the maximum cabinet temperature of 70 °C.

Check the voltage available to the transmitter at the end of its cable. With 16 V at 20 mA and 25 Ω input resistance, long cables and transmitters needing 12 V or more may leave little reserve.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

The S1SD-1AI-1U is used in compact marshalling cabinets and skid panels in Oman and the GCC for utilities, water treatment and general process plants, where large numbers of 4 to 20 mA signals must be isolated in small space.

Site conditions in Oman for the S1SD-1AI-1U

Control cabinets in Gulf plants often run hot, because many sit in outdoor kiosks or in rooms where air conditioning is not always reliable. Before you finalise the S1SD-1AI-1U, check the permitted ambient range and any derating stated by the manufacturer against the real temperature inside your panel, and leave the recommended spacing around the device so that heat can escape. Long cable runs between the field and the marshalling cabinet are common on large sites, so confirm the signal types, wiring limits and earthing arrangement early in the design.

It also helps to standardise on a small number of part numbers across a project. Keeping a few spare S1SD-1AI-1U units on site in Oman shortens recovery time after a fault, and documenting configuration settings makes replacement faster for the maintenance team.

About brand

Pepperl+Fuchs is a German manufacturer of industrial sensors and explosion protection equipment, founded in 1945 in Mannheim by Walter Pepperl and Ludwig Fuchs as a radio repair shop. Defective transformers led them into manufacturing, and the company developed its first proximity switch in the late 1950s. Pepperl+Fuchs is headquartered in Mannheim and is a pioneer of intrinsically safe electrical equipment for hazardous areas.

Seven Star LLC lists Pepperl+Fuchs sensors, isolated barriers, power supplies and hazardous-area mobile devices, and supplies them to instrument and automation teams in Oman by exact model designation.

Where Pepperl+Fuchs equipment is used

Isolated barriers sit between field instruments in Zone 0 or Zone 1 and the DCS or safety system in refineries, gas plants and chemical works. NAMUR sensors report valve position and machine states in classified areas. Photoelectric sensors and LiDAR scanners work in conveying, packaging, warehousing and vehicle guidance. Ex-rated tablets and phones are carried on operator rounds and maintenance jobs.

Ordering Pepperl+Fuchs parts: what we need

Send the complete model designation as printed on the device, including every suffix; a single letter can change the supply voltage or the output type. Add the part number if the label shows one. For barriers, tell us the field device and signal type, the number of channels and whether the safety loop needs a SIL-assessed module. For mobile devices, state the zone or division and the regional radio version.
