Pepperl+Fuchs HiC2025 SMART Transmitter Power Supply

Description

HiC2025 SMART transmitter power supply for HiC termination boards

The HiC2025 is a plug-in isolated barrier from the Pepperl+Fuchs HiC (high-density) system. It supplies a 2-wire SMART transmitter in a hazardous area, or accepts a 2-wire current source, and passes the 4 to 20 mA signal to the safe area. Unlike the DIN-rail K-System modules, it mounts on a HiC termination board and is powered over the board bus.

The module is only 12.5 mm wide, 106 mm high and 128 mm deep, about 100 g, and typically sits in a row on a board that carries the terminals, the 24 V supply and the diagnostic bus. This makes it suitable for large marshalling cabinets where many analog loops must be isolated in little space.

Seven Star LLC supplies this module in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat; confirm the matching termination board in your project documents.

How the HiC2025 works on a termination board

The HiC2025 converts the field loop current into an isolated output chosen by DIP switches: current source (factory setting), current sink or a 1 to 5 V voltage. The isolation between field and control side is rated as safe electrical isolation with 375 V peak value under IEC/EN 60079-11, and the control side has basic insulation for 60 Veff against the supply.

Because the module is bus powered, there are no separate supply wires; the termination board carries 24 V and the signal terminals. Low power dissipation (up to 800 mW) is the design feature that allows high packing density without cabinet overheating.

System fit and related parts

Use HiC2025 with a HiC termination board matched to the system, together with sibling HiC modules for other signals. For DIN-rail installations with the same function, KCD2-STC-Ex1 (12.5 mm) or KFD2-STC5-1 (20 mm) are alternatives. The coding listed on the datasheet (pins 1 and 3 trimmed) ensures that only matching modules fit a given board slot.

Diagnostics, safety and handling of the HiC2025

The HiC2025 is rated up to SIL 2 with systematic capability SC 3 under IEC/EN 61508, so it can serve in loops that form part of a safety instrumented function when the safety manual is followed. Insulation figures and Ex ia entity values must be copied into the loop dossier: Uo 25.2 V, Io 100 mA, Po 630 mW and Ci 5.7 nF on the field side. Cable capacitance and inductance should be added to the transmitter values to confirm the combination is permitted.

As a plug-in module it is sensitive to mechanical damage at the pins, so store spares in original packaging and avoid stacking. Do not plug or unplug modules in a hazardous atmosphere unless the installation permits it; the module is for the safe area or Zone 2 as described in its Ex ec supply-side marking.

Selection and ordering checklist

  • Confirm the cabinet uses HiC termination boards (this module cannot be DIN-rail mounted alone).
  • Verify the board slot coding.
  • Check the transmitter minimum voltage against 15 V at 20 mA.
  • Select the output mode needed by the control card.
  • Check Ex ia entity values.
  • Confirm the 24 V bus supply.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the HiC2025

Plug the module into the board slot, set the DIP switches and verify the output with a loop calibrator. A HART communicator is connected at the board terminals. Replace modules by simple unplugging, which shortens downtime, but isolate the loop in the control system first.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

High-density transmitter interfaces such as the HiC2025 are used in large central control rooms and remote instrument enclosures for upstream oil and gas, refinery expansions, power stations and desalination in the GCC. The -40 to 70 °C rating helps in hot remote instrument houses.

Site conditions in Oman for the HiC2025

Control cabinets in Gulf plants often run hot, because many sit in outdoor kiosks or in rooms where air conditioning is not always reliable. Before you finalise the HiC2025, check the permitted ambient range and any derating stated by the manufacturer against the real temperature inside your panel, and leave the recommended spacing around the device so that heat can escape. Long cable runs between the field and the marshalling cabinet are common on large sites, so confirm the signal types, wiring limits and earthing arrangement early in the design.

It also helps to standardise on a small number of part numbers across a project. Keeping a few spare HiC2025 units on site in Oman shortens recovery time after a fault, and documenting configuration settings makes replacement faster for the maintenance team.

About brand

Pepperl+Fuchs is a German manufacturer of industrial sensors and explosion protection equipment, founded in 1945 in Mannheim by Walter Pepperl and Ludwig Fuchs as a radio repair shop. Defective transformers led them into manufacturing, and the company developed its first proximity switch in the late 1950s. Pepperl+Fuchs is headquartered in Mannheim and is a pioneer of intrinsically safe electrical equipment for hazardous areas.

Seven Star LLC lists Pepperl+Fuchs sensors, isolated barriers, power supplies and hazardous-area mobile devices, and supplies them to instrument and automation teams in Oman by exact model designation.

Sensors listed include the NJ2-12GK-SN NAMUR inductive sensor, the R101 retro-reflective photoelectric sensor and the R2000 2-D LiDAR scanner. For field staff there are the Tab-Ex 05 DZ1 tablet for Zone 1/21 areas and the Smart-Ex 03 DZ2 smartphone for Zone 2/22 and Division 2 areas.

Where Pepperl+Fuchs equipment is used

Isolated barriers sit between field instruments in Zone 0 or Zone 1 and the DCS or safety system in refineries, gas plants and chemical works. NAMUR sensors report valve position and machine states in classified areas. Photoelectric sensors and LiDAR scanners work in conveying, packaging, warehousing and vehicle guidance. Ex-rated tablets and phones are carried on operator rounds and maintenance jobs.

Ordering Pepperl+Fuchs parts: what we need

Send the complete model designation as printed on the device, including every suffix; a single letter can change the supply voltage or the output type. Add the part number if the label shows one. For barriers, tell us the field device and signal type, the number of channels and whether the safety loop needs a SIL-assessed module. For mobile devices, state the zone or division and the regional radio version.
