WIKA CTR2000 Eight-Channel Precision Thermometer

Description

WIKA CTR2000 eight-channel precision thermometer, -200 to +962 °C

The WIKA CTR2000 is a desktop precision thermometer readout for platinum resistance thermometers, with up to eight measuring channels and an accuracy of 0.01 °C. It accepts 3-wire and 4-wire resistance thermometers and can be used with calibrated and uncalibrated Pt100 probes, covering -200 to +962 °C [-328 to +1,764 °F]. WIKA positions it as a reference instrument for factory and calibration laboratories, for testing, adjusting and calibrating temperature measuring instruments, and as a complete stand-alone system suitable for measurements or on-site calibrations. Seven Star LLC supplies the CTR2000 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page explains the specification so an RFQ can state the channels, probes and certificate that are needed.

How the CTR2000 measures temperature

The instrument passes a DC sensor current of 1 mA with alternating polarity through the probe and measures the resulting resistance, then converts it to temperature using the probe’s characteristic. For calibrated probes the characteristic is the ITS-90 or the Callendar-Van Dusen (CvD) data entered into the instrument; for uncalibrated probes the standard conversion per EN 60751 is applied. Input impedance is above 10 MΩ. Resolution on the display is 0.001 °C and the sample rate is 2 seconds for 4-wire and 4 seconds for 3-wire measurement.

A feature that the data sheet stresses is the handling of SMART probes. When a calibrated probe has a protected SMART connector, the calibration data stay in the probe, and the CTR2000 recognises it as soon as it is connected, so the best accuracy is applied without manual entry. The instrument also keeps a temperature monitor, which updates the probe log whenever a probe is used outside its specified range, so one can see whether the calibrated range was ever exceeded, and a calibration status monitor, which gives an on-screen message when a SMART probe is due for recalibration. A built-in, password-protected calibration programme lets the CTR2000 itself be recalibrated using a calibrated, traceable reference resistor.

Operating conditions and approvals of the CTR2000

The CTR2000 is for indoor use only, not for wet locations, at an operating temperature of 0 to 40 °C, with the best accuracy achieved within 15 to 25 °C. Storage temperature is -20 to +50 °C, humidity 0 to 80 % relative non-condensing, and altitude up to 2,000 m. Because the specification requires 120 minutes of warm-up, a calibration laboratory should power the unit on well before the work begins. The data sheet lists an EU declaration of conformity (EMC to EN 61326, low voltage and RoHS). Power cords are available for Europe, USA/Canada, UK and China.

Where the CTR2000 fits and related WIKA instruments

WIKA lists the CTR4000 as a multi-functional precision thermometer and the CTP5000 as a reference thermometer on separate data sheets. The CTR2000 is usually paired with a dry-well calibrator such as the CTD9100 or with a liquid bath, with a calibrated Pt100 reference probe providing traceability. The units under test can be resistance thermometers such as the TR10 and TR33 that Seven Star LLC also lists. Within a pressure and temperature calibration workshop the CTR2000 provides the temperature reference while a pressure calibrator provides the pressure reference.

Selection and ordering checklist for the CTR2000

  • Number of channels needed (the data sheet describes the 8-channel version).
  • Type and number of reference probes, calibrated or SMART, and their R0 and alpha values.
  • Need for 3-wire or 4-wire connection, depending on probe cabling.
  • Temperature range and required uncertainty, remembering the EN 60751 and CvD limits.
  • Software or command-set needs (RS-232, SCPI).
  • Power cord type for the mains supply.
  • Calibration certificate of the instrument and probes.

Use and maintenance of the CTR2000

Give the instrument its warm-up time and keep it in a stable ambient temperature. Use 4-wire connection for reference work, because 3-wire measurement carries a larger tolerance and does not include uncertainty from cable fluctuation. Keep probe connectors clean, and avoid using SMART probes beyond their range, since the monitor logs every excursion. Use the password-protected reference-resistor calibration only with a traceable reference. Retain a calibration schedule for the readout itself and note that the data sheet states a long-term resistance stability of ±25 ppm per year.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the Gulf the CTR2000 serves as the readout of laboratory reference setups at plant calibration shops, third-party calibration laboratories and quality departments of equipment manufacturers. It supports multi-probe comparison in baths and dry-well calibrators during turnarounds in oil and gas, power and desalination plants, and it is a practical tool for audits that need documented temperature traceability.

3-wire and 4-wire accuracy of the CTR2000

Measurement Resistance accuracy Temperature accuracy Sample rate
4-wire ±4 mΩ ±0.01 K 2 s
3-wire ±12 mΩ ±0.03 K (without cable fluctuation) 4 s

About brand

WIKA is the German manufacturer of pressure, temperature, level and flow instruments, best known for its pressure gauges. Alexander Wiegand and Philipp Kachel founded it on 2 January 1946 in Klingenberg am Main, Bavaria. The name comes from the first two letters of their surnames. WIKA is still run by the Wiegand family and is headquartered in Klingenberg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list WIKA pressure gauges, diaphragm seals, transmitters, switches, thermometers and thermowells, and supply them to plants, contractors and panel builders in Oman and the GCC by model and order code.

Temperature sensors and thermowells TR10, TR12-B, TR33, TC10-B, TW10 flanged, TW15 threaded RTD and thermocouple measurement in process lines

The WIKA model number tells you the build. In 232.50, the first digit 2 means stainless steel wetted parts, the second digit 3 means a liquid-fillable case, and ".50" is the case style. The 111 series uses copper alloy wetted parts and suits water and air. Where the medium is corrosive, very hot or would block the gauge, a diaphragm seal such as the 990.27 keeps it away from the Bourdon tube. For temperature, a thermowell like the TW10 lets you remove the sensor without opening the process.

Where WIKA instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, WIKA gauges, transmitters and thermometers are used in oil and gas, refining and petrochemical plants, power and desalination, water networks, district cooling and HVAC, and on skids and machines from OEMs.

Ordering WIKA instruments: what we need

Send the model, dial size (for example 63, 100 or 160 mm), range and unit, connection size and position (lower or back mount), accuracy class and whether liquid filling is needed. For diaphragm seals and thermowells, add the process connection, materials and insertion length.
