Deye SUN-3.6K-G04P1-EU-AM1 3.6 kW Single-Phase String Inverter

Description

The Deye SUN-3.6K-G04P1-EU-AM1 is a small single-phase grid-tied string inverter with one MPP tracker, a 3.6 kW AC rating and room for 4.7 kW of PV. At 5.6 kg and with no fan it is easy to hang on a wall, and it starts feeding power from only 80 V. It has no battery port: it is meant for homes and small shops that want to lower their bill with rooftop solar.

Light, silent and simple

A 3.6 kW inverter fits the typical single-phase villa roof, where a household load of a few kilowatts runs through the middle of the day. With natural cooling the unit has nothing that wears out, and the datasheet quotes 35 dB(A) or less. One tracker means a single string or two strings in parallel on the same roof face, which is the usual layout for a small array. The 80 V start-up lets it begin early in the morning and keep producing late in the afternoon.

Highlights

  • One tracker; efficiency up to 97.5%.
  • Zero export and VSG applications.
  • Optional string monitoring, PID prevention and arc-fault protection.
  • Wide grid-voltage range.

Technical specification

The datasheet lists ten ratings from 1 to 4 kW. The first table compares three of them.

Is 3.6 kW the right size

The 3.6 kW rating suits a roof of about eight to ten modules. It carries 18 A at most on the AC side, so a standard single-phase feeder is sufficient. If the roof can hold more than 4.7 kW of modules, step up to the 4 kW rating or choose a two-tracker model. Check the 550 V ceiling against the string voltage on the coldest morning, because open-circuit voltage rises as modules cool. If the plan includes a battery, a hybrid inverter is the better starting point.

Guidance from the user manual

The manual lists the tools for installation, including a crimping tool and a heat gun, and asks for a near-vertical mounting angle, a minimum gap between inverters shown on a diagram and a wall that can bear the weight. For start-up it gives the order AC breaker, PV breaker, then the inverter switch. Do not share one breaker among several inverters, and size the cable by the rating row in its cable table.

Residential roofs in hot climates

The small body is easy to shade under an eave or on a north wall, which keeps it below the 45 degrees C derating point more of the day. Keep the space around it open so that convection works.

Practical notes

A 4.7 kW PV input against 3.6 kW of AC gives a ratio of 1.3. At 5.6 kg and 280 x 272.5 x 171.5 mm this is a wall unit that one person can mount. The 20 A tracker input suits a single string or two parallel strings of ordinary 10 A modules. If a battery is planned for later, start with a hybrid inverter instead of upgrading this one.

Selection and installation notes

A grid-tied string inverter is selected from the array size, the string voltage window and the grid connection. Check the string open-circuit voltage at the lowest site temperature against the input limit and the operating voltage at high temperature against the MPPT window, balance the strings on each tracker, fit DC isolators and surge protection and keep the clearances on the data sheet. In hot sites allow for output derating, shade the unit and have the grid settings approved by the utility before connection.
