SMA Sunny Tripower 125 STP 125-70 Solar Inverter

Description

The SMA Sunny Tripower 125 (STP 125-70) is a three-phase string inverter that delivers 125 kW at 400 V AC from 12 independent MPP trackers. It is aimed at commercial and industrial rooftops and ground-mounted plants up to the megawatt range, where many string inputs and good shade tolerance matter more than central-inverter scale.

Twelve trackers for complex roofs and ground arrays

Each of the 12 MPP trackers has two string inputs (24 in total) and accepts up to 30 A usable current, so high-current modules can be connected without extra combiners. The inverter has no galvanic isolation, uses OptiCool cooling, is rated IP65 and works from -30 °C to +60 °C, which makes it suitable for outdoor wall or rack mounting in hot sites. A multifunction relay, four digital inputs for power limitation and two for quick stop help meet grid-operator requirements.

SMA lists several built-in functions: ShadeFix optimisation for partly shaded arrays, an ArcFix arc-fault circuit interrupter compliant with IEC 63027, I-V array diagnostics, DC type I plus II and AC type II surge arresters, and the Smart Connected monitoring service. Communication is by Ethernet (two ports), Wi-Fi, SMA Speedwire and Modbus, and the unit integrates with SMA commercial storage and charging systems.

Selecting and ordering

Check the string layout against the 12 trackers: many short strings suit the 450 V to 800 V full-power window and the 30 A tracker limit, while very long strings approach the 1100 V maximum. Confirm the local grid code, the site temperature and the required monitoring interface before ordering. The manufacturer states a standard warranty of 5 years, with optional extensions. The nearest published alternative on our site is the SMA Sunny Tripower CORE1 STP 50-41, and the full range is in solar power.

About brand

Three-phase string inverters for commercial rooftops and carports are the part of the SMA program that contractors in the Gulf ask for most. SMA has built solar inverters and energy systems in Niestetal, Germany since 1981.

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists the Sunny Tripower CORE1 STP 50-41 and sources SMA solar inverters and their accessories for PV projects in Oman on request.

SMA Sunny Tripower CORE1 STP 50-41 in brief

The STP 50-41 is a 50 kW transformerless three-phase inverter. SMA's datasheet gives it six independent MPP trackers with two string inputs each, a maximum DC input voltage of 1000 V, an IP65 enclosure and an operating temperature range of -25 to +60 °C. The CORE1 is a free-standing unit, so it is set on the roof or ground without a wall or rack behind it.

Ordering SMA inverters: what we need

Send the full type designation as printed on the nameplate (STP 50-41, not only "CORE1"), the grid voltage and frequency, the utility or grid-code requirement that applies in your GCC country, and any surge protection or communication options. For a replacement unit add the serial number or a nameplate photo. We check the code against SMA documentation and provide the manufacturer's datasheet and certificates on request.
