Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/35 and 150/45 Charge Controller

Description

A Bluetooth MPPT solar charge controller for 12, 24 and 48 V battery banks

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/35 (with its 150/45 sibling) is a maximum power point tracking charge controller with built-in Bluetooth for set-up and monitoring through the VictronConnect app, and a VE.Direct port for a GX device or PC. It auto-selects 12, 24 or 48 V battery voltage (36 V needs the software tool) and carries 35 A or 45 A of charge current. Victron states ultrafast tracking for changing light, a multi-peak algorithm for partial shading, maximum efficiency above 98 percent and no cooling fan, with full output up to 40 C.

Sizing the array

The PV voltage must exceed the battery voltage by 5 V for start-up and then by 1 V, and the open-circuit voltage of the string at the coldest expected temperature must stay below 150 V. Connected power above the nominal rating is limited by the controller, but an array short-circuit current above 40 A (35 A model) or 50 A (45 A model) may damage it. A Smart Battery Sense or BMV-712 can pass battery voltage and temperature to the controller over Bluetooth for better charging. Other Victron units are in solar power, such as the Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000.

Typical use

Small off-grid systems, telecom and monitoring stations, pumping, signalling and remote shelters use this class of controller. Confirm the battery chemistry and charge profile with the battery maker before commissioning; the controller supports a fully discharged lithium reconnect function with an integrated disconnect.

About brand

A battery-based backup or off-grid system needs one device that inverts, charges the battery and switches between AC sources. In the Victron Energy program that device is the MultiPlus-II inverter charger. Victron Energy, founded in 1975 and based in Almere, Netherlands, makes inverters, chargers and battery systems.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list the MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 and source Victron inverter chargers for buyers in Oman.

Reading the Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 model name

The name carries the main ratings: a 48 V battery system, 5000 VA inverter output, a 70 A battery charger and a 50 A AC transfer switch. Victron's documentation gives a 230 VAC output and continuous power of 4000 W at 25 °C, falling to 3700 W at 40 °C. The unit supports Victron's PowerControl and PowerAssist functions for use with a limited grid or generator supply.

Ordering Victron Energy equipment: what we need

Send the complete model name, state if you need the standard or the GX version, and give the battery voltage and battery type. Tell us if the unit will run alone, in parallel or in a three-phase group, and the ambient temperature at the site, which matters in the GCC. We check the model against Victron documentation and provide the manufacturer's datasheet on request.
