Danfoss 068U4281 TCAE Thermostatic Expansion Valve R22/R407C
Description
TCAE: a stainless-steel straight-through expansion valve for R22 and R407C
The 068U4281 is a Danfoss TCAE thermostatic expansion valve for R22/R407C. Unlike the angled TUBE, this valve is a straightway design with a 1/2 in ODF solder inlet, a 5/8 in ODF outlet and a 1/4 in ODF equalization connection, so it drops straight into a liquid line without an elbow. The body is stainless steel and the bimetal connections are steel/copper.
The store entry lists a 1.5 m capillary, an evaporating range of -40 to 10 C, a maximum working pressure of 45.5 bar (660 psig) and a factory static superheat of 4 C with adjustable superheat setting. The flow direction is shown as bi-flow with orifice 1-2, and UL lists the valve for R22 and R407C.

Selecting a TCAE orifice and charge
This TCAE family is the larger-capacity sibling of the TUA/TCBE style valves: capacity is chosen by the orifice assembly, which is a replaceable part in this version (the page shows spare parts available for the TXV). That makes a TCAE a sensible choice for a fleet of packaged chillers or condensing units where several capacities share one body.
Select the orifice number from the capacity table in the data sheet for your refrigerant, evaporating temperature and liquid temperature, then keep the evaporator pressure drop in mind because the valve has an external equalizer. This code is the R22/R407C charge; an R410A or R134a unit needs a different charge and code.
Installation checks before you order
Fit the bulb on the horizontal suction line at 12 o’clock or 4 and 8 o’clock positions depending on pipe size, insulate it and keep it clear of oil traps. Connect the 1/4 in equalizer line downstream of the bulb. Protect the body from heat while brazing so that the diaphragm and seats are not damaged.
Confirm orifice number, refrigerant, connection sizes and approval needs against the attached data sheet. The Danfoss installation guide for TCBE / TCCE / TCAE and the TUA / TUAE / TCAE orifice guide cover the exchange procedure.
After brazing and before the bulb is insulated, check that the capillary has not been kinked or crushed by pipe clips, since a damaged capillary loses charge slowly and the valve then starves the evaporator.

About brand
Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Milestones
- 1932–1933: First expansion valve; the company is founded in Nordborg.
- 1939: 26 employees. By the 10th anniversary in 1943 the company has 179.
- 1950s: Rapid growth turns Nordborg into a Danfoss town with housing and schools for its workforce.
- 1968: Danfoss launches its VLT frequency converter, one of the first mass-produced AC drives.
- 2014: Acquisition of the Finnish drives maker Vacon, now the VACON brand.
- 2021: Acquisition of Eaton's hydraulics business.
Choosing Danfoss products
For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
Where Danfoss products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.

Ordering Danfoss products: what we need
Send the Danfoss code number from the label (for example 032U7115 or 131B0149) or the full drive type code (FC-302P3K0T5...). For drives, add the motor power, supply voltage and any fieldbus option. For valves, add the size, connection, medium and coil voltage. For pressure switches and transmitters, add the range, output and pressure connection.
