Allen-Bradley 1492-J10 10 mm2 Feed-Through Terminal Block

Description

10 mm2 feed-through block for power-level wiring

The Allen-Bradley 1492-J10 is the 10 mm2 member of the 1492-J feed-through family, used where field or feeder cables are heavier than control wiring, such as motor leads, heater circuits and supply tails. The product page gives a size of 9.9 mm wide, 39.5 mm and 60 mm in the other dimensions, and an IEC rating of 10 mm2.

The page also prints wire sizes of #18 AWG (UR and CSA) and #16 AWG for ATEX; these look low for a 10 mm2 block, so the SCCR table in the datasheet, which lists 14 to 6 AWG for the J10, should be used when sizing conductors. Check both before ordering.

For quick comparison, the derived width-to-conductor ratio is 0.99 mm of rail per mm2 of conductor (9.9 mm over 10 mm2), against 1.5 mm per mm2 for the J4 (6.1 mm over 4 mm2). Larger terminals trade rail length for current capacity, so mixed panels often use J4 for control and J10 for power.

Fuse and short-circuit data

Per the 1492-TD015 table, the J10 is listed for 14 to 6 AWG conductors with 100 A Class J or T protection, 60 A RK1 or G, 30 A RK5 or CC, 600V maximum and a short-circuit current rating of 100,000 A symmetrical.

Use the table to check that the fuse or breaker feeding the circuit is within what the block is rated for. The country of origin is Germany.

Where the J10 sits in the J series

The J-series ladder in the datasheet runs through J3, J4, J6, J10, J16 and J35 and J50 for larger conductors. The J10 is thus the first size for conductors in the 6 AWG class, after the J6, which is rated for 14 to 8 AWG. Larger conductors need the J16 (14 to 4 AWG) or J35 (12 to 1/0 AWG).

Mount on DIN rail and add end covers, jumpers and markers separately.

Ordering and documents

Order 1492-J10 in full. Hosted document: 1492-TD015A (terminal block specifications, which contains the dimension drawings and the SCCR tables). Confirm wire size and terminal torque before final panel drawings.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and quotes on request; please confirm every rating against the current Rockwell documents before ordering.

Planning example, derived arithmetic only: a three-phase motor feeder with three phases and a protective earth at 10 mm2 needs four terminal positions, and the three phase blocks occupy about 30 mm of rail at 9.9 mm each, plus the earth block if it uses the same size. Confirm the cable gland, lug and torque requirements with the panel standard.

Please send the quantity of 1492-J10, the conductor sizes, the control voltage, and the accessories needed with it. Small panel components are easy to under-specify, so we confirm each accessory by catalog number before preparing the quotation (10 mm2 feed-through IEC terminal block, 14-6 AWG SCCR rating, 600V).

About brand

Allen-Bradley is the brand of Rockwell Automation for industrial control: ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers, I/O systems, PanelView operator terminals, PowerFlex drives, motor control and industrial network equipment. The company began in Milwaukee in 1903, when Lynde Bradley and Dr. Stanton Allen formed the Compression Rheostat Company to make the motor speed controller Bradley had invented in 1901. It took the name Allen-Bradley in 1909 and was bought by Rockwell International in 1985. Since 2001 its owner has been Rockwell Automation, which is still headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Allen-Bradley company profile

Product families Logix programmable automation controllers (ControlLogix, CompactLogix), legacy SLC 500 and MicroLogix PLCs, Micro800 controllers, POINT, FLEX and Compact I/O, PanelView HMIs, PowerFlex AC drives, contactors, motor starters and soft starters, safety components, Stratix Ethernet switches

Milestones

  • 1901: Lynde Bradley invents the compression rheostat to control the speed of electric motors.
  • 1903: The Compression Rheostat Company is formed in Milwaukee with an initial investment of USD 1,000.
  • 1904: Harry Bradley joins; a crane controller is shown at the St. Louis World's Fair.
  • 1909: The company is renamed Allen-Bradley.
  • 1985: Rockwell International acquires Allen-Bradley.
  • 2001: Rockwell Automation becomes the company's name; the Allen-Bradley brand marks 100 years in 2003.

Reading Allen-Bradley catalogue numbers

The first digits of an Allen-Bradley catalogue number identify the platform, which tells you what is compatible with what. 1756 is ControlLogix (chassis-based, used for large process and plant control), 1769 is CompactLogix 5370 with Compact I/O, 5069 is CompactLogix 5380 with Compact 5000 I/O, 1734 is POINT I/O, 1794 and 5094 are FLEX and FLEX 5000 distributed I/O, 1746 and 1747 belong to the older SLC 500 family, 1766 is MicroLogix 1400 and 2080 is Micro800. For drives, 25B is PowerFlex 525 and 22B is PowerFlex 40; in a code such as 25B-D010N114, "D" means 380–480 V, "010" is the output current rating, and N114 instead of N104 means the drive has an integrated EMC filter. Many plants in the region still run SLC 500 and older MicroLogix systems, which Rockwell has discontinued, so exact spares and migration to CompactLogix are both common requests.

Where Allen-Bradley products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Allen-Bradley controllers and drives run on oil and gas facilities, water treatment and pumping stations, cement, food and beverage and packaging plants, and on machines supplied by American OEMs. ControlLogix is often the platform for plant control systems, while PowerFlex drives are used on pumps, fans and conveyors.

Ordering Allen-Bradley products: what we need

Send the full catalogue number and the series letter from the label (for example 1756-EN2T Series D), because firmware and compatibility can change between series. For drives, add the motor power, voltage and filter option. For a discontinued SLC 500 or MicroLogix part, tell us whether you need the exact spare or a migration proposal.
