Allen-Bradley 5069-RTB64-SCREW Power Terminal Kit

Description

MOD and SA power connectors for Compact 5000 controllers

The Allen-Bradley 5069-RTB64-SCREW is a power terminal block kit for Compact 5000 controllers and adapters. It contains two screw-type terminal blocks: the 5069-RTB6-SCREW with six points and the 5069-RTB4-SCREW with four points. In a CompactLogix 5380 controller, the MOD power connection uses the four-point block and the SA power connection uses the six-point block.

The terminal blocks are not built into the controller, so they are ordered separately in this kit. A spring-clamp equivalent kit, the 5069-RTB64-SPRING, is also listed by Rockwell Automation. The product page describes the 5069-RTB64-SCREW as a Compact I/O power terminal kit for both 4 and 6 pin screw types, with a temperature rating of 0 to 60 °C.

Wiring and torque

Both terminal blocks accept solid or stranded copper wire from 0.5 to 1.5 mm² (22 to 16 AWG) rated at 105 °C or greater. The maximum wire diameter including insulation is 3.5 mm and only one wire can be connected per terminal. Strip the insulation 12 mm and tighten the terminal screw to 0.4 N•m. The controller power ratings are 10 A maximum at the MOD power RTB and 10 A maximum at the SA power RTB.

Where the kit is used

Wire the 24V DC supply that feeds the controller electronics to the four-point block and the field power to the six-point block, following the wiring diagram in the controller manual. The CompactLogix 5380 controller specifications list this kit for every controller in the 5380 series, including the 5069-L306ER and the 5069-L320ER. The Compact 5000 I/O data sheet shows that analog modules use a different 18-pin RTB, the 5069-RTB18,.

Plan one kit for each controller or adapter that needs its own MOD and SA power connections, and keep a spare if modules may be replaced during maintenance. The spring-clamp kit has a smaller 2.9 mm maximum wire diameter, so check the thickness of the wire insulation before choosing between the two kits.

Installing the MOD and SA terminal blocks

Before fitting either block, isolate both the MOD power and SA power supplies and confirm that the controller or adapter is de-energised. Identify each block before wiring: the four-point 5069-RTB4-SCREW belongs on the MOD power connection and the six-point 5069-RTB6-SCREW on the SA power connection. Mixing them up is an easy mistake during a busy panel build, so label the conductors at the cabinet end as well as near the terminal block.

Prepare each conductor to the stripping length given in the specification table, insert one wire per terminal and tighten to the stated torque with a calibrated screwdriver. Give every conductor a light pull after tightening to confirm it is held. Route the cables so that the weight of the bundle does not hang on the terminal block, and follow the wiring practice in the controller installation instructions and your site standard.

Commissioning checks

With the blocks seated and wired, compare polarity against the controller wiring diagram before switching on. Apply MOD power first and confirm that the controller starts as expected, then apply SA power and confirm that the local I/O modules receive field power. Record the measured voltage at each block on the commissioning sheet so that later fault-finding has a reference value. If a module does not respond, isolate and inspect the wiring at the terminal block before replacing any hardware.

Selection checks before ordering

Confirm the controller or adapter catalog number and check in its data sheet that the 5069-RTB64-SCREW is the listed power terminal kit. Decide between screw and spring-clamp termination at the design stage and keep one type across the panel where practical, so that maintenance staff use the same tools and procedures. Check that the cable you plan to use falls inside the permitted conductor size and insulation diameter, and that its temperature rating meets the minimum in the specification table. Because only one wire fits each terminal, any distribution to other loads should be done at a separate terminal or distribution point rather than by doubling conductors.

Operating conditions in Oman and GCC control panels

Control cabinets in Oman and the wider GCC often sit in plant rooms, substations or outdoor kiosks where summer heat pushes the internal temperature towards the upper end of the operating range. Measure the temperature inside the enclosure during the hottest part of the day, not only at commissioning, and add ventilation or cooling if the reading approaches the stated limit. Fine wind-blown dust can settle on terminal blocks and wiring, so keep cabinet doors closed, maintain gaskets and filters, and clean with dry, oil-free air or a soft brush during shutdowns.

Coastal sites add humidity and salt. Condensation can form when a cooled cabinet is opened in humid air, so plan inspections to limit how long doors stay open. During periodic maintenance, isolate power, recheck the terminal screws at the specified torque, look for discoloration or loosened conductors, and replace any block that shows signs of overheating. Logging these checks against the controller tag number helps the maintenance team spot a connection that keeps working loose.

Documents and quotation

About brand

Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.

Allen-Bradley product families listed here

Current controller platforms on this page are ControlLogix, with the 1756-L85E ControlLogix 5580 controller and the 1756-PA72 chassis power supply, and CompactLogix 5380, with the 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Distributed I/O is represented by POINT I/O: the 1734-AENTR dual-port EtherNet/IP adapter and the 1734-IB8 digital input module. Allen-Bradley drives listed include the PowerFlex 525 and PowerFlex 755. For installed systems there are SLC 500 parts: the 1746-A10 chassis, 1746-NI16I analog input module, 1747-ASB remote I/O adapter, 1747-KE interface and 1747-M13 memory module.

Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used

ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.

Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need

Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
