Brand: C-TEC
C-TEC BF362 Conventional Fire Panel Barrier Interface
Description
The C-TEC BF362 is a barrier interface unit that lets a conventional zone of a C-TEC fire alarm panel serve intrinsically safe detectors in a hazardous area. It is compatible with all C-TEC manufactured conventional fire alarm panels and allows a zone of up to 10 intrinsically safe detectors and any number of manual call points to be used in hazardous environments such as gas plants. The unit sits between the fire panel and a Zener barrier, which is a separate part.
Technical specifications
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Part number | BF362 conventional fire panel barrier interface unit |
| Compatibility | All C-TEC manufactured conventional fire alarm panels (CFP, MFP and FP types named in the diagram) |
| Hazardous zone capacity | Up to 10 intrinsically safe detectors and any number of manual call points on one zone |
| Supply | 24 V auxiliary supply from the fire panel |
| Quiescent current | 2.8 mA at 30 V |
| End-of-line | 4k7 end-of-line resistor supplied for the hazardous side; panel EOL (6K8 resistor for FP, EOL module for MFP, EOL capacitor for CFP) connected across the BF362 EOLD terminals |
| Fault indication | Open and short circuit wiring faults on the hazardous side of the barrier are shown as open circuit faults at the fire panel |
| Dimensions | 55 x 55 x 18 mm (W x H x D) |
| Related equipment | Zener barrier (not part of the BF362) connected between the interface and the hazardous zone wiring |
How the interface is wired
The BF362 has safe-side connections to the panel’s detector zone circuit (zone plus and minus) and to the 24 V auxiliary supply, and hazardous-side connections to the Zener barrier. The detector circuit end-of-line device supplied with the fire panel is connected across the BF362 EOLD terminals, which is a 6K8 resistor for FP panels, an EOL module for MFP panels and an EOL capacitor for CFP panels, while the 4k7 end-of-line resistor supplied with the BF362 goes at the end of the hazardous zone wiring. Manual call points should be positioned first on the zone wiring so that they keep working if a detector head is removed. The zero volt connection is joined to earth on most Zener barriers. Open and short circuit wiring faults on the hazardous side are shown as open circuit faults at the fire panel.
What to confirm before ordering
The instructions give very little data beyond the wiring: a quiescent current of 2.8 mA at 30 V, a 24 V auxiliary supply from the panel and a body of 55 x 55 x 18 mm. The suitability of the whole zone for a hazardous area depends on the detectors, the Zener barrier and the cable parameters matching, and on the area classification, none of which the BF362 sheet addresses, so these must be checked by the designer against the certificates of the detectors and barrier chosen. Confirm which C-TEC conventional panel is in use, the number of detectors, which barrier will be used and which Ex certification the detector heads carry before ordering. Intrinsically safe equipment should be installed to the relevant national and local requirements.

About brand
C-TEC is the trading name of Computionics Limited, a British manufacturer of life safety electronics based in Wigan, Greater Manchester. The company was founded in 1981 and designs and builds its fire alarm panels, call systems and evacuation equipment at its own UK factory. It describes itself as the UK's largest independent manufacturer in this field and sells into more than 70 countries.
Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists C-TEC panels and detectors such as the XFP501/CA single loop addressable fire panel, the CP416 CAST-PRO addressable optical smoke detector and the CFP708-4 eight zone conventional fire alarm panel.

Milestones
- 1981: Computionics Limited is founded and starts trading as C-TEC.
- 2021: C-TEC marks 40 years as a UK life safety manufacturer.
C-TEC fire alarm families
The manufacturer divides fire systems into conventional and addressable. On the conventional side are the CFP panels in 2 to 8 zones, with ActiV detectors, sounders and call points. On the addressable side, XFP panels cover one or two loops and ZFP panels up to eight, working with C-TEC's own CAST protocol and CAST-PRO devices. Addressable panels are also made for Apollo XP95 and Discovery and for Hochiki ESP devices, so the protocol of a panel must match the detectors on its loop. EN54-4 power supplies, SigTEL refuge systems and EVAC-ALERT panels complete the range.

Ordering C-TEC equipment: what we need
Send the full part number including the suffix after the slash, which separates protocol versions of the same panel. Tell us the detector protocol already on site, the number of loops or zones, and any network or repeater requirement. For projects in the GCC, name the approval the consultant specifies so we request the matching certificates from the manufacturer.
