Moxa EDS-205A 5-Port Unmanaged Ethernet Switch

Description

A compact five-port switch for cabinets and harsh sites

The Moxa EDS-205A is a five-port unmanaged Ethernet switch in an IP30 aluminium housing. It forwards 10/100 Mbit/s traffic on five RJ45 ports with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDI-X, so patch cables and crossover cables are both accepted. There is nothing to configure beyond two DIP switches for broadcast storm protection and Quality of Service, which makes it a plug-and-play choice for small control-panel networks, skid packages, CCTV drops and PLC-to-HMI links. Moxa lists maritime (DNV, LR, ABS, NK), hazardous-location (Class I Div. 2, ATEX Zone 2, IECEx), rail wayside (EN 50121-4) and traffic-control (NEMA TS2) approvals for the series, and compliance with PROFINET Conformance Class A.

Models in the EDS-205A series

All variants share the same housing and power section. The suffix tells you the uplink: M is multi-mode, S is single-mode, SC or ST is the fibre connector, and T is the -40 to 75 deg C range.

Model RJ45 ports 100BaseFX port Typical distance Operating temperature
EDS-205A 5 – – -10 to 60 deg C
EDS-205A-T 5 – – -40 to 75 deg C
EDS-205A-M-SC / -M-SC-T 4 1 multi-mode SC 4 km (OM1 to OM4) -10 to 60 / -40 to 75 deg C
EDS-205A-M-ST / -M-ST-T 4 1 multi-mode ST 5 km (50/125 um) -10 to 60 / -40 to 75 deg C
EDS-205A-S-SC / -S-SC-T 4 1 single-mode SC 40 km (G.652) -10 to 60 / -40 to 75 deg C

Selection and installation

Choose the plain EDS-205A for air-conditioned panels and the -T version for outdoor kiosks, pump stations and unconditioned shelters. Feed both power inputs from separate 24 VDC supplies if you want redundancy; Moxa lists DIN-rail supplies such as HDR-60-24, MDR-40-24 and NDR-120-24 as accessories. For a larger or managed network, look at a managed switch such as the Moxa EDS-G508E. Fibre models are meant for noise immunity or distance: before relying on a fibre link, check that its link budget exceeds the fibre loss plus the dispersion penalty, and fit an attenuator on short single-mode runs as the datasheet advises.

Documents and quotation

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, can quote the EDS-205A and its fibre and wide-temperature variants against your exact order code. Please confirm the port mix, temperature range and approval you need on the project before ordering. The manufacturer datasheet (version 3.0) is attached, and more network hardware is listed under Industrial Communications.

About brand

Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.

Moxa switches and converters listed here

The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.

Ordering Moxa devices: what we need

The suffixes carry the specification. Send the complete model name, including fiber mode and connector (MM-SC, SS-SC, ST), the -T wide-temperature suffix and any coating or approval suffix. Add the power supply voltage, the SFP modules needed and the quantity.
