Selecting the right variant

It fits machine builders and plant engineers who want switch diagnostics visible in the PLC without a full managed switch.

On the practical side, mounting is listed as din-rail mounting; wall mounting (with optional kit); the housing is metal; the stated MTBF is 3,483,278 hrs; the warranty period is 5 years. Treat the MTBF as a manufacturer prediction under its stated method, not a guarantee for your site.

About brand

Moxa is the Taiwanese maker of industrial networking equipment: Ethernet switches, serial device servers, protocol gateways, media converters, secure routers and remote I/O. It was founded in Taiwan in 1987 and started with serial communication products before moving into industrial Ethernet. It is headquartered in Taipei.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Moxa switches, serial servers, gateways and converters, and supply them to control system integrators, utilities, oil and gas and building automation projects in Oman and the GCC by exact model.

The choice between switch types follows the network. An unmanaged switch simply forwards traffic and suits a small, isolated panel. A managed switch adds redundancy protocols (Moxa's Turbo Ring recovers a broken ring in milliseconds), VLANs to separate traffic, port mirroring and alarms, which a SCADA or DCS network needs. The suffix on a Moxa model also matters: "-T" means a wide operating temperature range (typically -40 to 75 °C), which is the safe choice for outdoor cabinets in the Gulf summer. "-MM-SC" or "-S-SC" means multi-mode or single-mode fibre with SC connectors.

Where Moxa products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Moxa equipment connects RTUs, PLCs, meters and protection relays in oil and gas fields, electrical substations, water and wastewater SCADA, transport, and building and energy management systems.

Ordering Moxa products: what we need

Send the complete model including all suffixes (for example EDS-508A-MM-SC-T), the quantity, and for fibre models the fibre type and distance. For gateways, tell us which two protocols need to be linked.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Moxa SDS-3008?
Moxa lists it as: Compact industrial smart Ethernet switch with 8 10/100BaseT(X) ports, dual 12/24/48 VDC power inputs, -10 to 60°C operating temperature. A smart Ethernet switch with eight 10/100 ports and industrial protocol support for EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, PROFINET IO device and MECHATROLINK-4, plus MRP/RSTP redundancy and dual 12-48 VDC inputs.
What power supply does the SDS-3008 need?
The Moxa specification gives an input voltage of 12-48 VDC; Redundant dual inputs. Check the terminal arrangement and, where relevant, the redundant-input wiring against your panel supply before ordering.
What operating temperature range applies to the SDS-3008?
The listed operating temperature is -10 to 60°C (14 to 140°F). Wide-temperature versions carry a -T suffix in Moxa's order codes where the series offers them, and they are separate order codes.
Does the SDS-3008 need configuration?
It is an unmanaged switch: ports auto-negotiate speed and crossover, so it works as plug-and-play without software configuration, and any alarm or switch functions are set on the unit itself.
Where is the SDS-3008 datasheet and how do I ask for a quotation?
You can download the Moxa datasheet from this page. For a quotation, send us the full order code, quantity and destination; Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier based in Muscat.
