Where it fits and what to check
The port count suits aggregation of process-area switches, camera networks and control-room uplinks where Fast Ethernet no longer carries the load. It supports EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and PROFINET IO device functions so the switch itself is visible to controllers.
On the practical side, mounting is listed as din-rail mounting; wall mounting (with optional kit); the housing is metal; the stated MTBF is 808,933 hrs; the warranty period is 5 years. Treat the MTBF as a manufacturer prediction under its stated method, not a guarantee for your site.
Please check the SFP modules for the four fibre slots (ordered separately), the -T grade if the cabinet is unheated, and the supply (12/24/48/-48 VDC, redundant) before you place an order. Seven Star LLC supplies as an independent company and prices against the precise code requested.

About brand
Moxa is the Taiwanese maker of industrial networking equipment: Ethernet switches, serial device servers, protocol gateways, media converters, secure routers and remote I/O. It was founded in Taiwan in 1987 and started with serial communication products before moving into industrial Ethernet. It is headquartered in Taipei.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Moxa switches, serial servers, gateways and converters, and supply them to control system integrators, utilities, oil and gas and building automation projects in Oman and the GCC by exact model.

The choice between switch types follows the network. An unmanaged switch simply forwards traffic and suits a small, isolated panel. A managed switch adds redundancy protocols (Moxa's Turbo Ring recovers a broken ring in milliseconds), VLANs to separate traffic, port mirroring and alarms, which a SCADA or DCS network needs. The suffix on a Moxa model also matters: "-T" means a wide operating temperature range (typically -40 to 75 °C), which is the safe choice for outdoor cabinets in the Gulf summer. "-MM-SC" or "-S-SC" means multi-mode or single-mode fibre with SC connectors.
Where Moxa products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Moxa equipment connects RTUs, PLCs, meters and protection relays in oil and gas fields, electrical substations, water and wastewater SCADA, transport, and building and energy management systems.
Ordering Moxa products: what we need
Send the complete model including all suffixes (for example EDS-508A-MM-SC-T), the quantity, and for fibre models the fibre type and distance. For gateways, tell us which two protocols need to be linked.

Frequently Asked Questions
Moxa lists it as: 16-port full Gigabit managed Ethernet switch with 12 10/100/1000BaseT(X) ports, 4 Gigabit SFP slots, -10 to 60°C operating temperature. Sixteen gigabit ports, twelve of them 10/100/1000 copper and four SFP slots, in a managed DIN-rail switch with Turbo Ring, Turbo Chain, MRP, MSTP and link aggregation.
The Moxa specification gives an input voltage of 12/24/48/-48 VDC; Redundant dual inputs. Check the terminal arrangement and, where relevant, the redundant-input wiring against your panel supply before ordering.
The listed operating temperature is -10 to 60°C (14 to 140°F). Wide-temperature versions carry a -T suffix in Moxa's order codes where the series offers them, and they are separate order codes.
It is a managed switch, so VLANs, redundancy and security are set through its web, console or SNMP interfaces.
