Brand:

Moxa NPort 6150 1-Port Secure Terminal Server

Description

Secure serial-to-Ethernet with TLS and SSH

The Moxa NPort 6150 is a one-port secure terminal server. Its 3-in-1 serial port supports RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 selected from a configuration menu, and secure operation modes (Secure Real COM, Secure TCP Server, Secure TCP Client, Secure Pair Connection, SSH and Reverse SSH) encrypt serial data with TLS and SSH before it crosses the network. Remote configuration uses HTTPS and SSH, authentication can use a local database, RADIUS or TACACS+, and Moxa states that the security features are based on IEC 62443. It supports IPv6, non-standard baud rates and generic serial commands in Command-by-Command mode, making it suitable for serial equipment on networks that carry sensitive operational data.

Selection notes

Pick the 6150 for a single device that must be reachable securely. The two-port 6250 adds a 64 KB port buffer that holds serial data during an Ethernet outage and can be expanded by SD card; the 6150 has no SD slot. Standard models include a regional power adapter and the -T models do not. If encryption is not required, a lower-cost unit such as the NPort 5110A is adequate. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact model; check the temperature range and secure-mode needs of your project before ordering. The Moxa datasheet (version 1.5) is attached, and related products are listed under Industrial Communications. Plan the security design first: decide whether to use SSH or TLS secure modes end to end, which hosts need the matching Real COM driver or secure client, and whether RADIUS or TACACS+ will be used for logins. Moxa lists IEC 62443-based features, but it does not state a certification level for this product in the datasheet, so ask for the compliance statement if your project specification requires one. Moxa lists support for RIP v1/v2 and static routes, which can help when the terminal server sits on a separate subnet, as well as PPPoE and PPP for dial-up style access. Generic serial commands are supported in Command-by-Command mode. The two-port NPort 6250 adds a 64 KB buffer that holds serial data during an Ethernet outage; the 6150 is the simpler single-port choice. The series carries a NEMA TS2 traffic-control rating.

How the Moxa NPort 6150 works

The NPort 6150 sits between a serial device and an Ethernet network. It takes the serial data, wraps it in network packets and sends it to a host. In the secure modes, the data is encrypted with TLS or SSH first. A driver on the host can show the serial port as a normal COM port.

About brand

Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.

Moxa switches and converters listed here

The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.
