Brand:

Moxa NPort 5110A 1-Port RS-232 Serial Device Server

Description

Putting an RS-232 device on the network in about 30 seconds

The Moxa NPort 5110A is a one-port RS-232 serial device server. It connects a PLC, meter, analyser, scale, barcode reader or other serial device to an Ethernet network, giving PC software direct access to the device through Real COM or TTY drivers, or letting host applications talk to it over TCP or UDP. A three-step web console guides the setup, with an average of 30 seconds quoted by Moxa. Power consumption is below 1 W, and surge protection is applied to the serial, Ethernet and power lines, tested to IEC 61000-4-5. The metal housing has mounting ears and a screw-type power connector for secure installation.

Selection and commissioning

Choose the 5110A only if the field device is strictly RS-232; for an RS-485 multidrop bus pick the 5130A or the combined 5150A. Wide-temperature models are the right choice for outdoor cabinets and unconditioned shelters. In Real COM mode, the host sees a normal COM port, so existing SCADA or configuration software can be used unchanged; install the driver and map the port. Always set a fixed IP address and restrict access with the web console security features. The standard-temperature models include a power adapter. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact model; confirm serial standard, temperature range and power adapter region before ordering. The Moxa datasheet (version 2.0) is attached, and related products are in Industrial Communications. For a two-port unit, see the NPort 5210A. The NPort 5100A can be set to send SNMP traps or email alerts on events such as a warm start, cold start or password change, and it supports COM port grouping and UDP multicast. Moxa states that the MiiNe system-on-chip design halves power consumption compared with other solutions. Drivers are listed for current Windows, Linux and macOS versions, including Arm-based platforms.

About brand

Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.

Moxa switches and converters listed here

The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.

Ordering Moxa devices: what we need

The suffixes carry the specification. Send the complete model name, including fiber mode and connector (MM-SC, SS-SC, ST), the -T wide-temperature suffix and any coating or approval suffix. Add the power supply voltage, the SFP modules needed and the quantity.
