Moxa TCC-120 RS-422/485 Converter and Repeater
Description
Boosting RS-422/485 signals over long cable runs
The Moxa TCC-120 is an industrial RS-422/485 converter and repeater. It boosts a weak RS-422 or RS-485 signal so the line can run farther, or converts an RS-422 link to RS-485. Where a multidrop bus has too many nodes or too much cable for the transceivers on the field devices, a repeater regenerates the signal at the midpoint. The metal housing uses terminal blocks for both signal and power wiring, a DIP switch sets the built-in 120 ohm terminator and the pull-up and pull-down resistors, and the unit can be wall-mounted or fitted to a DIN rail with the supplied kit. The TCC-120I adds 2 kV isolation for protection against ground loops and surges on long runs between buildings.

Choosing between TCC-120 and TCC-120I
| Model | Isolation | Operating temperature | Input current |
|---|---|---|---|
| TCC-120 | No | -20 to 60 deg C | 65 mA at 12 VDC |
| TCC-120I | Yes, 2 kV | -20 to 60 deg C | 180 mA at 12 VDC |
Pick the isolated version when the two cable segments sit at different earth potentials, run between buildings or pass through electrically noisy areas such as VFD rooms. For short, same-panel links the non-isolated model is enough.
Wiring notes and ordering
RS-485 is a bus, so terminate only the two physical ends of the line with 120 ohm and leave middle nodes unterminated. Remember that a repeater adds a segment; check the node and distance limits of the protocol you run, for example Modbus RTU. The datasheet gives no maximum cable distance for this product, so rely on the transmission limits stated by your equipment manufacturer. For RS-232 sources use a converter such as the TCC-80 first, and for serial over IP see the Moxa NPort range. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact model; state isolation, supply voltage and mounting before ordering. The Moxa datasheet (version 1.2) is attached, and related products are listed under Industrial Communications. Wire two-wire RS-485 with Data+ and Data-, and four-wire RS-422 or RS-485 with Tx+, Tx-, Rx+ and Rx-, always with a signal ground reference. The datasheet lists only an operating range of -20 to 60 deg C and no wide-temperature model, so install the unit inside an enclosure where temperature is controlled. The terminal block can also be fed through the supplied power-jack converter.

About brand
Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.
Moxa switches and converters listed here
The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.
Ordering Moxa devices: what we need
The suffixes carry the specification. Send the complete model name, including fiber mode and connector (MM-SC, SS-SC, ST), the -T wide-temperature suffix and any coating or approval suffix. Add the power supply voltage, the SFP modules needed and the quantity.
