Moxa EDS-508A 8-Port Managed Ethernet Switch

Description

Eight-port managed switching with security features

The Moxa EDS-508A is a standalone eight-port managed Ethernet switch built around Turbo Ring and Turbo Chain redundancy (recovery time below 20 ms at 250 switches) with STP, RSTP and MSTP for other topologies. Compared with entry-level switches it adds TACACS+, RADIUS, IEEE 802.1X, SSH and HTTPS, link aggregation with LACP, two relay alarm outputs and two digital inputs, which suit plant networks where access control and fault signalling matter. It is configured through a web browser, CLI, Telnet or serial console, a Windows utility or the ABC-01 backup tool and works with Moxa MXstudio.

Choosing and installing the EDS-508A

Use the eight-port copper model for panels with local devices and the fibre models for ring links between buildings or substations. Always compare the fibre link budget with total link loss plus dispersion penalty, and fit an attenuator on short single-mode links as the datasheet advises. The two power terminal blocks accept separate 12/24/48 VDC feeds for redundancy. Gigabit uplinks are not part of this series; if you need them, consider the Moxa EDS-G508E. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, supplies the series; send the complete order code, including -T or -80 suffixes, with your enquiry. The manufacturer datasheet (version 1.8) is attached, and similar products are listed under Industrial Communications. Confirm the approvals you need for your project against the datasheet before ordering. For commissioning, ring roles are assigned by the DIP switches (Turbo Ring, Master, Coupler, Reserve) or by software, and the console cable DB9-to-RJ45 10-pin is in the box. The two digital inputs can report door contacts or external alarms through the switch, and the two relay outputs can drive a beacon or a PLC input when a port or power fault occurs. Keep a configuration backup on the ABC-01 tool so that a replacement unit can be loaded quickly, and note that the MTBF figure differs between copper and fibre models.

About brand

Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.

Moxa switches and converters listed here

The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.

Ordering Moxa devices: what we need

The suffixes carry the specification. Send the complete model name, including fiber mode and connector (MM-SC, SS-SC, ST), the -T wide-temperature suffix and any coating or approval suffix. Add the power supply voltage, the SFP modules needed and the quantity.
