Brand:

Moxa EDS-G308 8-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Ethernet Switch

Description

Eight Gigabit ports in an unmanaged DIN-rail switch

The Moxa EDS-G308 is an unmanaged industrial switch with eight 10/100/1000BaseT(X) RJ45 ports. It targets networks that need Gigabit bandwidth between controllers, servers, cameras and drives but no management software. A four-position DIP switch enables broadcast storm protection, 9.6 KB jumbo frames, IEEE 802.3az energy saving and port-break alarming, and a relay output signals power failure or port break. Redundant 12/24/48 VDC inputs allow connection to two supplies. The -2SFP variants replace two copper ports with combo ports that accept SFP modules for fibre links with 100/1000 speed switching.

Models and SFP options

Model RJ45 ports Combo SFP ports Operating temperature
EDS-G308 8 – -10 to 60 deg C
EDS-G308-T 8 – -40 to 75 deg C
EDS-G308-2SFP 6 2 -10 to 60 deg C
EDS-G308-2SFP-T 6 2 -40 to 75 deg C

For the combo slots Moxa lists 100 Mbit/s SFP modules (SFP-1FEMLC-T, SFP-1FESLC-T, SFP-1FELLC-T) and Gigabit modules from SX and LX to ZX and WDM types, with -T versions for -40 to 85 deg C. Match the module to the fibre type and distance.

Choosing between unmanaged and managed

An unmanaged switch cannot form redundant rings or segment traffic with VLANs. Where you need those, a managed unit such as the Moxa EDS-G508E is the better fit; for small Fast Ethernet groups, an unmanaged 16-port model like the Moxa EDS-316-MM-SC-T may be enough. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, supplies the EDS-G308 family on request; please state the SFP or temperature option needed and check mounting space, since the housing is wider than five-port models. The datasheet (version 2.2) is attached, and further network products are listed under Industrial Communications. Installation is simple: clip the unit to a DIN rail, connect one or both power inputs to the 6-contact terminal block, and fit the supplied dust caps in unused RJ45 ports and SFP slots. Use Cat 5e or better cable for Gigabit links up to 100 m. When a port-break alarm is enabled by DIP switch, the relay opens or closes on a link loss so that a PLC input can monitor critical uplinks; check the alarm logic in the manual for your wiring. Energy-saving mode reduces consumption on idle links but should be tested on latency-sensitive control networks. The datasheet also lists IEEE 802.3az energy-efficient Ethernet, selectable by DIP switch, and 100/1000 speed switching on the SFP slots, which lets installers choose the link speed on site without software. All models receive a 100 percent burn-in test, and Moxa lists a five-year warranty for the series. The package contains dust caps for the unused RJ45 ports and SFP slots and a quick installation guide.

About brand

Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.

Moxa switches and converters listed here

The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.

Ordering Moxa devices: what we need

The suffixes carry the specification. Send the complete model name, including fiber mode and connector (MM-SC, SS-SC, ST), the -T wide-temperature suffix and any coating or approval suffix. Add the power supply voltage, the SFP modules needed and the quantity.
