Description
A standard Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway in a compact metal case
The Moxa MGate MB3180 is a one-port standard Modbus gateway that converts between Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU/ASCII. Up to 16 TCP masters can reach as many as 31 serial slaves, or a serial master can reach up to 32 Modbus TCP slaves. The serial port is RS-232/422/485 and is selected in software. Routing is by slave ID, TCP port or IP address, and Auto Device Routing creates the ID table with one click. With only 200 mA at 12 VDC and a small metal housing with mounting ears, it suits small installations such as a PLC or SCADA server reading one RS-485 meter line.

The MB3280 manages up to 62 serial slave nodes and the MB3480 up to 124. The 3280 and 3480 add HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP trap, NTP client and a built-in 120 ohm terminator.
Choosing and wiring
The MB3180 has no wide-temperature version and no redundant power input, so for harsh cabinets, dual power or serial isolation consider the advanced MB3170 or MB3270. For multiple serial lines, the MB3280 or MB3480 save addresses and rack space. External 120 ohm termination is needed at the ends of an RS-485 line when using the MB3180. Check Modbus slave IDs for duplicates across ports and timeouts for slow devices. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact model; confirm port count and power adapter region before ordering. Each serial port on the MB3280 and MB3480 can be set to Modbus RTU or ASCII with its own baud rate, so mixed serial networks can share one gateway. The MB3280 manages up to 62 serial slaves and the MB3480 up to 124. The MB3480 wall-mounting kit must be fixed with the two screws supplied, and the unit must be attached to the power terminal block, as noted in the datasheet.
