Brand:

Hydac MFX Mobile Low-Pressure Inline Filter, up to 50 bar

Description

Light aluminium inline filter for charge and low-pressure circuits

The Hydac MFX is an aluminium inline filter for charge circuits, pilot lines and other low-pressure oil lines up to 50 bar. Head and bowl are both aluminium, which keeps weight down on mobile and compact machines. Two sizes, MFX 100 and MFX 200, handle flows up to 130 l/min.

The head offers four possible positions for a clogging indicator, and a bypass valve is part of the standard equipment. The datasheet is explicit that a bypass is essential and must be selected.

Order code and preferred models

The sheet’s example is MFX BN/HC 100 G I 10 BF 4 .X /-B3.5: type, element material, size, pressure letter G (50 bar), port letter, micron rating, indicator type (here BF, a visual mobile indicator available on type codes 3 and 4) and the indicator installation position code, then supplementary details such as the bypass setting. Indicator letters are W (no port), A (plastic plug), B (visual, manual), C (electrical), D (visual and electrical) and BF.

Preferred models listed by the manufacturer pair the G3/4 or G1 port with a BF indicator and A1.0 setting, a blanked port (W 0.X) or a plug (A 2.X). The replacement element code looks like 0100 MX 010 BN4HC /-B3.5.

Selection notes

Because the housing is aluminium and rated at 50 bar, do not use it on a pressure line that sees peaks above that; for 100 bar look at the LF series and above that the DF. Keep the housing earthed and switch off power before pulling an electrical indicator plug.

Fluids include hydraulic oils H to HLPD, lubrication and compressor oils, biodegradable HETG, HEES and HEPG, and HFC and HFD fire-resistant fluids; high-water-content fluids on request. Please specify the port thread, micron rating and indicator position when you request a quotation.

The datasheet also provides gradient coefficients for each element medium and rating, covering Betamicron, Ecomicron and Mobilemicron, so differential pressure can be calculated for a given flow and viscosity before the filter is chosen. Charge circuits are sensitive to restriction, which is one more reason to confirm the bypass setting at the same time as the element.

Gradient coefficients for Betamicron BN4HC and Ecomicron ECON2 elements, in mbar per l/min at 30 mm2/s:

MFX size / medium 3 µm 5 µm 10 µm 20 µm
100 / BN4HC 12.0 9.0 4.6 3.4
200 / BN4HC 7.0 5.3 2.7 2.0
100 / ECON2 13.00 10.00 6.50 4.80
200 / ECON2 8.00 5.90 3.80 2.80

How the Hydac MFX works

The MFX is an inline filter that sits in a low-pressure oil line. The oil enters the head, flows from the outside to the inside of the filter element, and leaves clean through the outlet. Dirt stays on the element. As the element loads, the pressure drop across it rises. A clogging indicator shows this, and a bypass valve opens at the cracking pressure so the oil can still flow if the element is blocked.

Where the Hydac MFX is used

  • Charge circuits of hydrostatic drives
  • Pilot oil lines
  • Mobile machines where weight matters
  • Compact power units
  • Low-pressure return and supply lines

Selection checklist for the MFX

  • Size MFX 100 or MFX 200
  • Flow of up to 130 litres per minute
  • Nominal pressure of 50 bar
  • Element material: Betamicron, Ecomicron or Mobilemicron
  • Filtration rating of 5, 10 or 20 micrometres
  • Port thread such as G3/4 or G1
  • Type of clogging indicator and its position
  • Bypass cracking pressure of 3.5 or 1.7 bar

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Fit the filter in the flow direction marked on the head, with room below the bowl to change the element. Choose the indicator position from the four options in the head. Check the bypass setting against the circuit. Replace the element when the indicator shows clogging, and check the seals each time the bowl is opened.

Requesting a quotation for the Hydac MFX

Please send the order code, the flow, the oil type and the quantity needed. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

MFX materials

The head and bowl are aluminium and the seals are NBR, which keeps the weight low.

MFX fluids

The filter suits mineral oils, lubricants, biodegradable fluids, HFC and HFD fluids.

MFX weight and volume

The MFX 100 weighs 1.46 kg with the element and the MFX 200 weighs 1.74 kg, with chamber volumes of 0.71 and 1.12 litres.

MFX temperature

The temperature range is -10 to 80 degrees C.

Filter records for MFX

Keep the order code, the element code and the date of each element change.

Choosing the right MFX element

Pick the filtration rating from the cleanliness the components need, and the element from the fluid.

MFX clogging indicator

The head offers four positions for a clogging indicator. The VM type works up to 210 bar and the VL type up to 50 bar, with a standard setting of 2.5 bar and an optional setting of 1 bar. Indicator letters in the order code show a plug, a visual manual type, an electrical type or both.

MFX fatigue strength

At the nominal pressure of 50 bar the filter is rated for 1,000,000 pressure cycles without the BF indicator, which suits circuits with frequent load changes.

MFX element collapse strength

The Betamicron element withstands a differential pressure of 20 bar and the Ecomicron element 10 bar before it collapses.

About brand

Hydraulic power units around the world carry Hydac parts: accumulators, filters, coolers, valves and the sensors that watch pressure and temperature. The company was founded in 1963 in Sulzbach/Saar, Germany. Seven Star LLC lists Hydac SB330 bladder accumulators, RFM return line filters and the EDS 3400 and ETS 1700 electronic switches, and sources Hydac spare parts for plants in Oman and the GCC.

Hydac product families

Hydac groups its program into hydraulics and filtration (filters, accumulators, sensors and measurement), control technology (valves, control blocks, ball valves), thermal management (air and fluid coolers) and drive technology (pumps, motors, cylinders). The four listed products come from the first group and are common on lube oil skids, presses, turbine control units and mobile machines.

Ordering Hydac parts: what we need

  • Accumulators: full model code, volume, pressure rating, bladder material and the approval required
  • Filters and elements: housing code, element code, micron rating and clogging indicator type
